Collecting Cars record start to 2024 (2)

Collecting Cars has opened the year with record numbers. In the first two months of 2024, the platform sold more than £35,000,000 worth of cars, motorbikes, number plates and automobilia – more than 10% up on 2023.

Along with the continued growth in sales around the world, Collecting Cars has already achieved two new world record prices this year. The first came in the form of a Porsche 993 Carrera Cup; specifically the 1998 UPS Porsche-Junior Team car, driven by Dirk Müller to victories at Zolder, Siegerland, the Nürburgring, and Hockenheim – and securing that year’s German Championship title. This particular car held road-legal status, and represented a remarkable opportunity to acquire a piece of modern motorsport history. Fierce bidding eventually saw the hammer price land at €407,704.

In the UK, Collecting Cars brought to market an incredible 993 Carrera RS. Not only did the odometer show less than 11,000 miles from new, but the car was offered by its first and only owner from new. Beautifully preserved with completely original factory paint, it was a true ‘unicorn’ in the market and sold for a record-breaking £456,000.

Collecting Cars was the first company outside of the US to host a public sale of a 992 GT3 RS. The Ice Grey car was in brand-new condition with just 15 km on the odometer, and achieved a winning bid of €337,500. Since then, the EU team has sold another two 992 GT3 RS, including a sought-after Weissach Pack model for €369,000.

In the last two months we’ve also been busy getting Chris Harris into as many cars as possible. We launched the first season of ‘Llandow Laps’; a series of head-to-head battles between two cars from the same genre to determine which one reigns supreme on the track. While ‘down under’, Chris also got behind the wheel of a sensational HSV GTSR W1, the last of the true Aussie ‘muscle cars’. It was subsequently sold at auction for A$262,762, and was snapped up by a buyer in the UK, so we can’t wait to see it on the road here.

It’s not just the cars that have set new records this year. In New Zealand, we hosted a Coffee Run at the Auckland Showgrounds that became the biggest gathering of its kind the country had ever seen. The next event in Sydney saw more than 2,000 cars descend on the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, creating an incredible automotive atmosphere - and even getting on the national breakfast TV! We’ve got big plans for Coffee Runs in the Northern Hemisphere this summer, so stay tuned for updates.

The record start to the year follows on from an incredible 2023, when we helped thousands more people around the world to find new homes for their cars and motorbikes. To date, Collecting Cars has sold more than 14,800 lots worldwide, and has generated more than £610 million for its sellers. It has gone from one location in London to having offices in Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Italy, Belgium, Spain, and with a strategic partnership in the UAE.

We are the market leader of collectible car sales in the UK, Europe and Australia, not to mention the biggest auction house in the UK – and we’re only just getting started. Watch this space!
