PORSCHE ENAMEL DEALERSHIP SIGN

Reflecting Porsche’s civic pride in its hometown, the original marque crest features the rearing horse from the coat of arms of the city of Stuttgart, with the antler emblems and red and black stripes of the coat of arms of Württemberg. It was created by the same engineer and designer who also conceived the world-famous VW logo.

This lot is an original and exceptionally rare ‘first edition’ Porsche enamel sign, which is understood to have been hung within the Jo Siffert Porsche dealership in Fribourg, Switzerland. It was acquired from the garage by a Swiss gentleman, who sold it to the current vendor more than 10 years ago.

The vendor reports that it can be determined as a first edition due to the gold leaf on the sign, where later examples were less intricate orange or yellow coatings. There are also original recessed marks within the back of the sign, where support bars would originally have been attached when the enamel was baked in the oven.

It is offered in superb condition for its age, still looking near-pristine from the front, and with only minor original handling marks hidden on the rear. The sign measures 45cm (height) by 35cm (width) and is suspended by an original brass chain.

While modern signs come to market fairly often, it is very rare to find such an early and original enamel Porsche dealership sign - especially one with the apparent provenance of this example. It is a great item for any collector, or someone lucky enough to have an equally early Porsche car in their garage.
