2016 BMW M140i

A renowned contemporary hot hatch, this 2016 BMW M140i is finished in the striking colour combination of Alpine White with red leather. Powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine with 335bhp and a 7,000rpm redline, this car is specified with the six-speed manual gearbox to offer even more engagement in a model already lauded for its performance and feel.

Described by EVO as “a unique rear-wheel drive hot hatch proposition”, the M140i followed on from the M135i as a dynamic and exciting, yet utterly practical, family car. This car is in excellent condition throughout and has covered only 19,611 miles from new.

First registered on 3 September 2016, the car has had two previous registered keepers prior to its current enthusiast custodian. He has owned the car for around one year and covered some 7,600 miles in this time.

The exterior of the car is in superb order, with the Alpine White paintwork complimented by graphite wheels and M blue brake calipers. The seller reports a small number of minor stone chips on the bonnet that have been touched in, and a mark on the nearside wing mirror casing. The 18-inch alloys are in great condition, with one small nick in the nearside front wheel, and some other small marks as photographed.

The car has some subtle exterior upgrades in the form of a small Maxton tailgate spoiler extension that is colour-coded to the body, black twin-slat front kidney grills (the original units are available if preferred) and genuine BMW front mud flaps. It is believed that the front bumper may have been resprayed in the past to rectify stone chips. There is a clear HPI report, and no sign of any damage.

In the cabin, the red Dakota leather is in excellent condition throughout, and the owner has enhanced the interior with genuine BMW stainless steel pedal covers. The manually adjustable Sport seats are heated, and this M140i is also equipped with cruise control, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, and BMW Business media system with satellite navigation. The seller reports a small scratch on the brushed metal trim just in front of the iDrive controller, and only very light wear to the driver’s seat bolster.

Mechanically, the car is in superb condition and has been fitted with a full Milltek resonated stainless steel cat-back exhaust system to allow the six-cylinder engine to really sing, as well as a genuine BMW underbody rear sub-frame brace. The current owner reports that he has never taken the car on track and has only used Shell V-Power fuel throughout his ownership.

The car was last serviced in July 2019 by BMW specialist Darlington BM at 13,750 miles, which included new engine oil and oil filter, air filter and micro filter renewal, fresh spark plugs, brake fluid, and a thorough inspection. Prior to this the car was serviced in November 2017 by Sytner BMW Newport at 4,213 miles. This service included an oil and micro filter service, plus a vehicle health check.

Its first MOT test was carried out on 30 August 2019 at 15,030 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The alloys are shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres all round. The seller reports that the current front tyres will need replacing soon, but is including two nearly-new Pilot Super Sport front tyres with 6mm and 7mm of tread with the car. The rear tyres have around 4mm of tread, and one spare rear tyre with 7mm tread is also included.

Driving the model at launch, Auto Express concluded: “It’s possible that we’ll never see a six-cylinder hot hatchback ever again after the M140i disappears, as the trend for downsized four-cylinder engines continues at full pace. That’s a shame, as it’s endlessly more characterful than the four-pot units used in so many of its rivals”.

Something of a landmark in the well-contested hot hatch market, this 2016 BMW M140i is a cared-for example of a car that may well be the last of its kind. It is presented in superb condition, with a great factory specification, and will undoubtedly prove to be a reliable and exciting car for the next owner.
