2009 PORSCHE (987) CAYMAN S SPORT

This Porsche Cayman S Sport is an exceptionally rare version of the 987 model, with performance-enhancing upgrades as well as unique factory finishes. Under the engine cover is the 3.4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, with power upped to 299bhp as standard, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission with a short-shift mechanism. The odometer shows 68,725 miles from new.

Introduced as a run-out model prior to the arrival of the facelifted 987, the Cayman S Sport featured a raft of desirable options as standard; including the Porsche Sports Exhaust, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a 10mm drop in ride height, and the Sport Chrono package. It was also equipped with hard-backed sport seats, various gloss black exterior and interior trim elements, and the Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob from the 997 GT3 RS. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with 5mm spacers as standard.

This particular car also has heated leather seats with embossed headrests, climate control, PCM with extended navigation module, and the Bose surround-sound system with CD player. It is fitted with the Litronic bi-xenon headlights, rear parking sensors, red tail lights, a fixed rear wing, and the front lip spoilers.

Number 427 of just 700 built, this is understood to be one of just 69 UK-market examples of the Cayman S Sport. It was first registered in March 2009, and has four previous owners. It is now offered for sale by the trade.

The bodywork and paint remains in good order, with the seller noting that it has just been machine polished and ceramic coated. The paint does have stone chips around the front and near the side vents, as shown in the photo gallery, though only what you would expect given the age and mileage.

It is understood that the car has previously had some paintwork to the offside rear bumper corner, and there is also an etched mark in the bonnet from a bird dropping. In general though, the exterior presents very well. The car rides on 19-inch Turbo style alloy wheels, which are in great condition.

In the cabin, the black leather upholstery remains in very good order, with slight wear on the driver’s side bolster, but otherwise only showing signs of light use. There is minor bobbling of the Alcantara on the gear lever and handbrake grip, but the steering wheel has been re-trimmed, so presents in superb condition. The seller states there are no warning lights and no faults with any of the switchgear or electrics.

The last scheduled maintenance was in June 2020 at 68,967 miles, carried out by marque specialist Eporsch near Woking. This consisted of a 20,000-mile service with renewal of the brake fluid, coolant, and a new coolant pipe. The air-conditioning has also been recently re-gassed. Prior to this, its most recent service was in June 2017 at 63,669, when it had an annual service at Renaissance Classic Sports Cars.

The most recent MOT test was on 18 August 2020 at 68,725 miles, which it passed at the first attempt with no advisories whatsoever. The wheels are shod in Porsche N2-rated Pirelli P Zero tyres in size 235/35 ZR19 at the front and 265/35 ZR19 at the front. All four are date-coded to 2019 and are in great condition, with at least 6mm of tread.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the stamped maintenance record, as well as a good history file of paperwork. There are also the original tools, warning triangle, and two keys present.

This Porsche Cayman S Sport is a lesser-seen and coveted version of the marque’s celebrated mid-engined sports car. Benefitting from a more focused specification as well as bespoke interior finishes, it also boasts genuine limited-edition status with just ever 700 built. Back in 2009, Harry Metcalfe wrote in Evo magazine that the Cayman Sport was “rare, handsome and fantastic to drive”, and this is a great opportunity to acquire a very well-presented example.
