2009 BMW ALPINA (E92) D3 BITURBO COUPE

This Alpina D3 BiTurbo Coupe is a smart example of the German marque’s high-performance version of the E92 3 Series. It is fitted with a modified version of BMW’s 2.0-litre twin-turbo inline-four diesel engine from the 123d, now producing 211bhp, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The D3 BiTurbo will launch from rest to 62mph in 6.9 seconds and push on to 152mph – and it boasts official average economy of 52mpg. The odometer currently indicates 97,266 miles from new.

This D3 BiTurbo was first registered in January 2009 and has just three previous registered keepers on the log book. It has been in the vendor’s care for the last three years.

The bodywork of this D3 BiTurbo is reported to be in good order. The vendor notes that the offside rear wheel arch appears to have been repainted prior to their ownership. Overall, the Black Sapphire Metallic finish presents in fair condition for the age, with some light stone chips to the bonnet and front bumper. The D3 comes equipped with a bespoke Alpina bodykit to differentiate it from other brisk BMWs on the road, and also features sport suspension. Its 18-inch five-arm multi-spoke alloy wheels are also specific to the Alpina models, and on this car have some small marks commensurate with the car’s mileage.

Moving inside, the vehicle features black leather and fabric upholstery, which presents with some age-related wear and marks to the driver’s bolsters and centre panels, visible in the photo gallery. One or two blemishes or water marks are also present on the offside rear seat cushion, though there are no rips, holes or other significant damage to the material. Alpina badging appears on the steering wheel and gear knob, which show wear commensurate with the mileage.

Factory-fitted equipment includes a BMW Professional radio and CD player, rear parking sensors, air-conditioning and more. The official Alpina plaque shows this as D3 BiTurbo number 071. The vendor has reported no electrical issues and no warning lights present on the dashboard.

The most recent service was undertaken in May 2019 at 90,481 miles, where technicians at The Workshop in Leeds, an independent BMW specialist, changed the engine oil and filter, microfilter, and brake fluid. Prior to this, in October 2017 at 75,942 miles, The Workshop carried out similar routine maintenance, as did Lloyd Newcastle BMW in September 2014, at 66,467 miles.

The vendor notes the vehicle received new rear brake discs and pads in July 2020, as well as a new exhaust clamp and new wing mirror glass, all fitted by Sheffield Autocare. In 2019, the car had its DSC hydraulic unit reconditioned and also received new front coil springs, both carried out by The Workshop in Leeds.

The most recent MOT test was on 3 May 2019 at 90,482 miles, which resulted in a pass with advisories to monitor a deteriorated offside mirror, a split front exhaust clamp and worn rear tyres – which have since been rectified as mentioned above. The car is booked in for another MOT, so will come with a fresh 12-month certificate for the next owner. The tyres are non-matching items, but all have approximately 5mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is the original Alpina book pack and user guides, as well as two keys, and various old MOT certificates and maintenance paperwork.

This Alpina D3 BiTurbo is an engaging and uprated example of the E92 3-Series, boasting enhanced performance and Alpina’s iconic exterior aesthetic. Supported by a solid maintenance history, with some larger jobs completed over the last two years, this D3 would make a very smart daily driver, blending impressive pace with useful economy.
