2007 PORSCHE 911 (997) TURBO

This Porsche 997 Turbo is a superb high-performance GT car, with a smart factory specification and an excellent service history record. It is powered by the 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged ‘Mezger’ flat-six producing 480bhp and 457lb-ft of torque, with permanent four-wheel drive transmitted via a five-speed Tiptronic S gearbox. The odometer shows 83,970 miles.

Introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the 997-generation 911 Turbo was 41kg lighter than the 996 model. It was the first Porsche production car to feature two BorgWarner variable turbine geometry turbochargers which, says Total 911 magazine, “gave turbocharged 997s unrelenting, savage performance right through the rev range”.

This UK-market car was first registered on 28 March 2007, and there are four previous keepers on the log book. It has been with the current owner for 18 months, during which time it has been a fun second car; with low annual mileage but regular use.

Today, its bodywork and paint are reported to be in generally excellent condition. The front end of the car, doors, A-pillars and part of the roof were treated to an application of XPEL paint protection film in August 2017, and while there are now some pinhead blemishes noticeable, these are therefore on the film rather than the paint. The vendor also notes some scuffs on the plastic front splitter, and small cracks in the PPF below the doors where it has been grazed when entering and exiting the car.

At the back of the car, the rear light lenses have been upgraded to the 997.2 style LED clusters, which work perfectly. Prior to the vendor’s ownership, someone added an ‘S’ to the ‘Turbo’ emblem on the engine lid, which can be removed by a future owner if desired. It rides on the original 19-inch alloys, which are in great shape, showing only minor kerbing damage to the nearside rear wheel.

In the cabin, the black leather upholstery presents very well for the age and mileage. There is of course some wear on the driver’s seat and steering wheel most noticeably, but there is no heavy discolouration or damage to the leather. It is equipped with the 16-way adjustable sport seats, which are embossed with the Porsche crest, as well as a sunroof. Also fitted is the Sport Chrono Plus package, with a silver-faced stopwatch, and rear parking sensors. There are no electrical faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.

The last scheduled maintenance was in July 2020 at 83,328 miles, when specialist Portiacraft renewed the engine oil and filter. At around the same time, new rear brake discs, pads, shims and sensors were fitted, along with new handbrake shoes. In August 2020, the air-conditioning condensers were replaced, and a new coolant pipe was fitted. The auxiliary drive belt and spark plugs were last renewed during a major service at Portiacraft in June 2019 at 81,220 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 31 July 2020 at 83,328 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. The car has been subject to an annual MOT inspection every year from 2010 onwards, and has never failed a test, which is further strong evidence of a well-maintained car. The wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, which were fitted 18 months ago.

Accompanying this Porsche are all of the original handbooks and supplementary literature, as well as the stamped guarantee and maintenance record, stored in the black wallet. The tools, locking wheel nut, and tyre inflator are also present, along with two original keys and one spare emergency plastic key.

This Porsche 997 Turbo is a supremely capable high-performance coupe, which is practical and refined enough to use every day. It remains in very impressive condition for its age and mileage, presented with a comprehensive service history record, and would make a great addition to a collection of modern classics.
