2007 PORSCHE 911 (997.1) CARRERA

This Porsche 997.1 Carrera is a well-maintained example of a great modern classic sports car, boasting a superb factory specification and relatively low mileage. It is powered by a 321bhp 3.6-litre flat-six, driving the rear wheels through the five-speed Tiptronic S transmission with gear shift buttons on the steering wheel. The odometer shows 71,293 miles from new.

Specified in Basalt Black with black leather upholstery, this 911 left the factory with the stainless steel exhaust tailpipes as well as the 19-inch Carrera Classic alloy wheel upgrade. Its other factory options included the Sport Chrono package - which hangs on to gears for longer when ‘Sport’ mode is engaged, and has a stopwatch to record lap times - as well as bi-xenon headlights, cruise control, heated front seats, the Bose surround-sound system, multifunction steering wheel, sunroof, and PCM with navigation – with all options adding around £10,000 to the new list price.

First registered on 30 June 2007, this 997 Carrera has four previous keepers on the V5C. It was acquired by the vendor just over two years ago. During their ownership, some discreet upgrades have been added, including Depo LED tail lights to mimic the look of the 997.2, hub centric wheel spacers (7mm at the front, 15mm at the rear), Porsche logo puddle lights, and new height and dampening-adjustable suspension coil-overs.

Today, the bodywork presents very well, with impressive shut lines and panel gaps. The vendor understands that the rear bumper had some minor damage with a filler repair and respray prior to his ownership, and there is a slight blemish on the offside rear section, but is not aware of any other repairs. There are a few parking dings on the nearside rear wheel arch, and some other small imperfections in the Basalt Black finish elsewhere, but overall the paint is very smart for its age with a glossy shine. It rides on the original 19-inch alloy wheels, which are in superb condition after being sand-blasted and refurbished, rounded off by coloured Porsche crest centre caps.

In the cabin, the front seats are manually adjustable for height and reach, with electric adjustment for the backrest position. The black leather and other interior trims are in generally good condition, with some visible wear and tear to the backrests, the glovebox, and the transmission tunnel cover in particular, as well as a horizontal scratch on the steering wheel airbag cover. The driver’s seat has some marks and surface wear, as do the plastic sill cover kick plates. Its extensive factory specification is summarised below, and all of the switchgear and electrics are in good working order. The service light is currently illuminated as its biennial workshop visit is now due.

Its last scheduled maintenance was in February 2019 at 65,335 miles, when Porsche specialist RPM Technik carried out a minor service. During the vendor’s ownership, new ignition coils and spark plugs have been installed, as well as new front and rear brake pads, and a replacement auxiliary drive belt. A new Bosch S5 110Ah battery has also been fitted.

Prior to this, the vendor is sure that a Porsche specialist service was also carried out at some point in 2016 or 2017. An invoice for the work was provided when he acquired the car, but it has since been misplaced. Prior to this, the last visit stamped in the book was a major service in August 2014 at 58,265 miles, carried out by JZM Porsche.

The most recent MOT test was on 20 January 2021 at 71,248 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with only one advisory regarding slight play in the offside front track rod ball joint. Other than in November 2010 when the headlamp aim was found to be too high, the car has never failed an annual MOT test; only ever having the odd minor advisory over the last 10 year - typically a very good indicator as to a car’s overall condition.

All four wheels are shod in a set of Porsche N-rated Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres – matching those fitted at the factory – which were installed in March 2019 and have covered around 4,000 miles, so they still have plenty of tread and with no damage.

Accompanying the car is the original book pack as shown in the gallery, including the stamped service record. The warning triangle and original tools are still present, as well as the tool to remove the front parking lights.

This Porsche 997.1 Carrera is an impressive sporting coupe, benefiting from an excellent factory specification and presented in good order throughout. With the Tiptronic S transmission, this 911 is even easier to live with as a daily driver, while the shift buttons on the steering wheel gives greater direct control when desired. After a fresh service, this refined everyday sports car will want for nothing to drive and enjoy immediately.
