This BMW M5 Touring is a very well-maintained example of the iconic ‘super estate’, presented in a lesser-seen factory colour and with an extensive specification. Under the bonnet is the mighty 500bhp 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V10, driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed SMG automated manual transmission with paddle shift. The odometer shows 114,264 miles.
Understood to be one of just 222 examples built in right-hand drive, this M5 Touring was first registered in November 2007, supplied by Chandlers BMW of Worthing, and has eight previous keepers on the V5C. The most recent private owner acquired the car in July 2020, and has invested in notable maintenance and improvements with BMW specialist BMR Performance since then.
Finished in handsome Monaco Blue metallic paintwork, the body panels of this M5 are all in good condition. The vendor reports that the front bumper has been repainted in the past to rectify older stone chips, and the offside front wing has also been resprayed. Otherwise, the paint is believed to be original, and as you would expect there are some small stone chips around the front end and minor imperfections around the body, commensurate with the car’s regular use.
All of the body trims present well, and the car is also equipped with roof rails and a panoramic glass sunroof. It rides on the correct 19-inch alloy wheels, which are in great shape having been recently refurbished. In April 2015, this M5 was fitted with a Westfalia tow bar system by Broad Oak BMW Canterbury at a cost of £1,560.
Inside, this BMW is in excellent condition for its age, with only modest wear to the leather on the driver’s seat, and very little wear anywhere else. It was specified with the extended leather dashboard and door cappings, and also has the optional Alcantara headlining. The aluminium trim inlays across the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and door cards give the cabin a clean and contemporary ambience,
Factory-fitted equipment includes electrically adjustable heated front seats with dynamic supports in the backrests, climate control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and soft-close doors. The car also has adaptive xenon headlights, BMW Professional media with DAB digital radio and CD changer, and a Head-Up display. All of the electrics are reported to work as they should, including the sunroof, and there are no warning lights on the dashboard.
This M5 has an impressive maintenance history from new, which is listed in detail below. Its last maintenance visit was to BMW specialist BMR Performance in December 2020, when a new clutch and flywheel was installed at 113,552 miles, and the brake fluid was also renewed. Prior to this, during the September 2020 service at circa 110,000 miles, BMR replaced the rod bearings, fitted new injectors, and also changed both front lower suspension arms.
In terms of other major work, the SMG hydraulic pump was replaced in December 2016 at 97,193 miles - so the car has covered less than 20,000 miles since then. The car is reported to be running and driving without fault, and goes to show that this era of M5 can prove to be reliable and eminently usable when regularly serviced.
The most recent MOT test was on 10 June 2020 at 108,008 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories or defects whatsoever. All four wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, which are in good condition.
Accompanying the M5 is the original book pack, plus the service book that is stamped by BMW main dealers up to 100,000 miles, and respected marque specialists thereafter. There is also a folder full of numerous supporting invoices, old MOT certificates, and registration documents. The original tool kit and first aid kit are also present, plus two keys.
This BMW M5 Touring is a sought-after modern classic, which has evidently been well-cared for throughout its life to date, with major preventative maintenance jobs already sorted for the next owner. Equipped with an incredible V10 engine, and endowed with a superb chassis, this is an exciting performance car that is also a practical load-lugger and refined cruiser.
Interested parties are very welcome to contact BMW specialist BMR Performance should they want an independent opinion of the car, as they have inspected and serviced the car during the vendor’s ownership.
