2006 BMW (E46) M3 CONVERTIBLE - CSL UPGRADES

This BMW M3 Convertible is a high-performance modern classic, finished in a black-on-black factory specification, and presented in superb condition throughout. Under the bonnet is the 3.2-litre S54 straight-six engine, driving the rear wheels via the six-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) with paddle shift. The odometer shows just 39,942 miles from new.

First registered in September 2006, this M3 left the factory finished in Carbon Black metallic - which appears as a stunning dark blue in the sunlight - paired with a black Nappa leather interior. Among the previous keepers is the chairman of Hexagon Modern Classics.

The previous sales sheet shown in the gallery explains that this particular M3 Convertible was treated to a range of upgrades to produce a specification that effectively created an ‘M3 CS Convertible’ – a car that BMW never built. It states that the running gear from an E46 CSL was carried over, as well as genuine 19-inch alloys, CSL brake callipers and the CSL steering rack.

As can be appreciated from the full photo gallery, the bodywork is in superb condition, with no signs of any panel damage or dents. Its Carbon Black paint has a wonderfully deep shine all around the car, and all of the light lenses and body trims are present and correct. Its black fabric soft top raises and lowers easily, and there is no damage to any of the material, which fits snugly over the frame. The genuine CSL wheels are in pristine condition.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black Nappa leather, which appears to have very little wear to speak of, other than some small scuffs and slight discolouration on the bolsters as shown. In general, the upholstery presents superbly, with no ‘puddling’ of the leather on the seats. It is equipped with electrically adjustable heated seats with memory settings on the driver’s side, and the SMG gear knob has been swapped for an aftermarket item. Factory-fitted features include climate control, cruise control, BMW Professional media and navigation, the Harmon Kardon sound system, and rear parking sensors.

Mechanically, this E46 M3 is in excellent condition, with its last scheduled maintenance having been carried out in August 2019 at 38,115 miles. This consisted of a standard oil service. In December 2017 at 35,411 miles, the car had a full Inspection II service with renewal of the micro-filter element, and also received a replacement secondary air pump, and new front anti-roll bar drop links. A summary of the service history is included below.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 23 August 2019 at 38,117 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories whatsoever. In fact, the online MOT history is remarkably clean, suggesting it has been very well-cared for by each of its previous owners.

Accompanying the car is the original book pack, including owner’s manual, service directory, and the stamped maintenance record. There are also numerous invoices to support the history.

The E46-model BMW M3 Convertible is one of the most popular ‘everyman’ performance cars of the 2000s. Equipped with a characterful and powerful straight-six engine, this open-top BMW is a fun modern classic that also boasts some discerning CSL-derived mechanical upgrades. It drives superbly with even sharper responses as a result, is in excellent condition throughout, and will undoubtedly delight its next owner whenever they choose to get behind the wheel.
