2005 BMW (E60) M5

This 2005 BMW M5 is a fantastic example of the E60 ‘super saloon’, benefitting from an excellent factory specification. It is powered by the 5.0-litre S85 V10 engine driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed BMW SMG automated manual paddle-shift transmission. The odometer indicates 65,237 miles.

First registered on 1 September 2005 and purchased by the vendor around nine years ago, this M5 has been cherished throughout its life, with a comprehensive BMW main dealer service history. The specification of this E60 includes heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, the extended leather package, head-up display, active seat bolsters, Professional media, and an Alcantara headlining. The car was kept maintained under a full BMW warranty until around 61,000 miles.

The Silverstone Blue paintwork is in excellent condition, having received attention to the rear nearside quarter panel and rear bumper to bring them in line with the rest of the vehicle following superficial damage at a car wash. The usual scattered stone chips to the front end and other vulnerable areas is to be expected from a car of this age and performance, though there are no major marks to the paintwork, which is still largely original. All four wheels are in excellent shape, free of any kerbing and other damage.

The interior of this M5 is in generally great shape given the car’s age. The driver’s seat has some signs of the usual bolster wear and creasing, but overall the leather still looks very smart. There are some other wear marks on areas such as the lower door cards, switchgear and seat bases, though these are all commensurate with the relatively low mileage. Everything in the cabin works correctly, with no reported faults or warning lights on the dashboard, though the sat-nav needs an updated disc. The only known electrical fault is that one of the rear number plate lights is not working.

This E60 M5 has clearly been taken care of by fastidious owners throughout its life, with an extensive BMW main dealer service history. The most recent service was carried out by Sytner BMW at 64,024 miles during February 2020, which comprised of a standard oil and filter change, along with a brake fluid change. Prior to this, the last two services were during July 2016 and July 2014 at 56,062 and 50,545 miles respectively. During the 2014 service, the micro filter and SMG and differential oil were also changed. In addition to the servicing, during the vendor’s ownership the throttle actuators on both sides have been replaced, in addition to a new clutch, at around 63,000 miles.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 14 November 2020, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. All four tyres are approximately three years old with good tread remaining.

Supplied with the vehicle are the original BMW handbooks and literature, service history record, and the tools under the flap in the boot lid. Numerous original invoices are present, as shown in the gallery.

Benefitting from a high factory specification, low mileage for its age, and fastidious maintenance, this BMW M5 offers the practicality of a large saloon with the engaging drive and raw power that is expected from a top-shelf ‘M' car. In impressive condition, this M5 would make a compelling high-performance daily driver or a fantastic weekend toy.
