2004 PORSCHE 911 (996.2) GT3

This Porsche 996.2 GT3 is a supremely entertaining 911, boasting outstanding dynamics and a thoroughly immersive analogue driving experience. Under the engine lid is a 3.6-litre flat-six ‘Mezger’ engine, producing 375bhp, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 28,253 miles from new.

While first registered in the UK on 1 April 2006, this 911 is actually a 2004 model year car. Its build was completed in June that year, and it was supplied to dealer A.I. Motokinisi in Cyprus. The car was first registered on 2 September 2005. The original owner, Mr Ashley Miller, had a holiday home in Cyprus, and used the car when he was staying there. He subsequently sold his villa and had the car shipped to the UK.

As the official paperwork shows, it is a full European specification car and was brand new when he bought it. Having spent the first part of its life in sunny Cyprus, this is reflected by the low mileage, and unlike many GT3s it has not spent most of its life on a track. The present owner actually thought the car’s early history in the Cyprus climate was a bonus, and was one of the reasons he bought this car over others.

The 911 has four previous keepers on the log book, and the current owner acquired it in March 2017. He is now emigrating to Florida, and this is the second of his vehicles being offered on Collecting Cars – the first being a supremely well-sorted E30 M3 track car sold two months ago.

Its vibrant Speed Yellow paintwork is described as being in excellent condition, with no accident damage reported by the vendor. The finish looks remarkably clean in the photo gallery and presents as a true collector-quality example. Some small strips of paint protection film are visible on the lower inner lips of the wheel arches, showing where a forward-thinking owner has added some shielding to prevent the common paint chipping. It rides on the correct 18-inch GT3 alloy wheels, which are pristine.

Inside, this 996 GT3 is equipped with lightweight Recaro bucket seats, upholstered in black leather with Speed Yellow centre panels and seat belts. There is some modest wear on the leather, and small scuffs on the door sill cover panels, but overall the cabin presents very well – and certainly in line with the low mileage. Factory-fitted equipment includes automatic air-conditioning, and the Porsche CDR23 radio and CD player.

The most recent MOT test was on 24 November 2020 at 28,156 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. The car has just had a four-wheel alignment and new alternator fitted at renowned specialist Unique Porsche. Its last scheduled full service was in March 2017 at 27,940 miles, when Autofarrm carried out an engine oil and filter change, plus replacement of the brake fluid, and the rear tyres and shock absorbers, before the present owner took possession.

It was not put through annual tests in either 2018 or 2019, as it was kept off the road in secure dry storage. The rear tyres are essentially as new, while there is around 6mm of tread left on the front tyres.

Accompanying the car are the original books, as well as import documentation, and a copy of the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming the factory specification plus a leather-bound folder of all the work that has been carried out on the car. It comes with two keys and has a tracker device fitted, though the next owner will need to renew the subscription online if they wish to keep it activated.

Bidders should note that in the history file and gallery below, there is a screenshot of the ECU readout carried out at Autofarm in 2017, as well as a photo of the Bosch diagnostic reader taken within the last month at Unique Porsche, both of which show zero ignitions in range 2. The readouts confirm the car’s cossetted life, with the operating hours further evidencing the low mileage, and with the rev check showing only ignitions within range 1. As most enthusiasts will also know, the famously reliable ‘Mezger’ engine does not have the standard 996’s RMS or IMS issues to be concerned about.

This Porsche 911 GT3 is a stunning track-focused performance car, though its owners have evidently chosen mostly to experience its thrills on the road rather than through lots of circuit use. Its pared-back specification and analogue driving experience have guaranteed this Porsche’s place as a coveted modern classic, and this particular car is in superb condition with a vibrant factory colour that Porsche itself used for the launch programme GT3s.

If you have always wanted to add an original and unmodified 996 GT3 to your collection, then this is a great opportunity to acquire a cherished car. It is one of very few UK-registered ‘06’ plate cars, and if looked after it should prove to be a fantastic ownership prospect for many years. The owner would certainly have kept the car if he was not moving stateside, so his loss could very well be your gain.

The vendor states that Darren King, the owner of Unique Porsche, is happy to discuss the car with any prospective buyers, having just seen the car very recently and run the diagnostic check. In his own words, it is a car he would love to be able to afford after having it on the ramps and driving it.
