2004 PORSCHE 911 (996.2) GT3

This 2004 Porsche 996.2 GT3 is a smart example of the more track-oriented 911, featuring adjustable suspension and upgraded brakes over the standard Carrera, not to mention significantly more power. It is equipped with a 3.6-litre flat-six ‘Mezger’ engine, sending 375bhp to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 54,712 miles from new.

First registered in August 2004, this 911 has just one previous registered keeper on the log book. It has been with the most recent private owner for two years, and is now offered for sale by the trade.

To the best of the vendor’s knowledge, the vehicle has never suffered any bodywork damage, and presents with smooth panels and even shut lines. There are some minor chips to the front bumper and bonnet, wing mirrors and the driver’s door edge, while a minor mark is visible on the offside corner of the front bumper. However, the GT Silver paintwork is believed to be original and is described as being in generally excellent condition. This 911 rides on the correct 18-inch GT3 alloy wheels, which remain in good order.

In the cabin, the lightweight Recaro seats are upholstered in black leather. There is some light creasing on the bases and bolsters, and the vendor notes that the stitching on the driver’s lower bolster is fraying. Some minor nicks and scuffs are also present on the dashboard and door cards, commensurate with the mileage. However, the main driver controls, including the steering wheel, metal-trimmed gear knob and handbrake appear with minimal wear. The vendor has reported no electrical issues and no warning lights present on the dashboard.

The last service was undertaken in October 2020 at 54,732 miles, where technicians at Prestige Cars in Kent gave the 911 a 24,000-mile service equivalent, including an engine oil and filter change, air filter replacement, a fresh set of spark plugs, and new brake fluid. During the last two years, a rocker cover gasket has also been replaced to rectify a minor oil leak.

It has only been used sparingly over the last four years, as the service before this was in June 2016 at 54,260 miles, carried out by Porsche Centre Reading; and prior to this in December 2015 at 53,963 miles, when it had a major service at specialist JZM Porsche. The clutch and flywheel were replaced in 2011 at 43,299 miles, while the last record of an auxiliary drive belt renewal was in 2010 at 41,198 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 19 October 2020 at 54,732 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, which have around 6mm of tread remaining, but which are beginning to show some age-related cracking, so would benefit from replacement in the near future.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original handbook, service book and certificate of authenticity from Porsche, as well as numerous maintenance invoices.

This Porsche 996.2 GT3 is a superb example of the lightened and track-focused 911. Presented in its unmodified factory specification and with a good service history, this GT3 would be a great modern classic to buy for fun road trips or track days, boasting a renowned analogue driving experience.

Please note: the MOT history for this car shows a reading of 59,803 km (37,159 miles) in November 2009, when the digital readout was temporarily switched to a kilometre display – most likely for driving on the continent. The following year, in July 2010, an advisory-free MOT test was conducted at 41,203 miles; however, the following day an entry of 26,804 miles was assigned to this vehicle – clearly in error. In the July 2011 MOT test the mileage readout was 43,781 miles. While the DVSA electronic log records a ‘mileage discrepancy’ on this basis, it is evident from the explanation herein that no such issue exists.
