2004 PORSCHE 911 (996) 40TH ANNIVERSARY

This 2004 Porsche 911 (996) is a smart example of the marque’s rare 40th Anniversary model, marking one of only 1,963 cars produced. Commissioned in 2003 to commemorate 40 years of the Porsche 911, the special edition features a host of unique features and options, not least the 3.6-litre flat-six engine that is upgraded to 345bhp with the X51 Powerkit, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer currently indicates 67,430 miles from new.

First registered in January 2004, the vehicle has been in the vendor’s possession for eight years, and is now offered for sale to another Porsche enthusiast.

The addition of the Powerkit brought with it the cast-aluminium intake manifolds with a modified cross section and larger exhaust ducts, plus a revised valvetrain and lubrication system. Furthermore, the 40th Anniversary was also fitted with a limited-slip differential, the front air intakes from the Turbo model, GT3 side sills, and lowered sport suspension.

The bodywork of this 996 presents very well, with smooth panels and no evidence of any accident damage. It was only available in the special GT Silver metallic paint, and today its finish is described as being in good condition. The vendor notes that the front bumper has been resprayed due to a smattering of stone chips, while the roof paint has been refreshed due to some peeling of the lacquer towards the edge of the sunroof. Some slight stone chips also appear on the bonnet. The 18-inch Carrera II alloys originally had a polished finish that was prone to damage, and the wheels on this car have been refurbished in the past with a more conventional painted finish.

Moving inside, the cabin has a black leather interior which appears with modest signs of use and age, but with no damage or heavy wear. The 40th Anniversary also features heated sport seats, air-conditioning and bi-xenon headlights. The interior plastics and dashboard trim all appears in good order, while the vendor has reported no faults with any controls or electrics, and no warning lights present on the dashboard.

The last service was undertaken in September 2020 at 67,416 miles, where technicians at Oakwell Garages in Leyland changed the engine oil and filter. Prior to this, a minor service was carried out September 2019 at 65,923 miles and September 2018 at 65,813 miles, both also by Oakwell Garages, which has serviced the car since 2013. The vendor reports that new brake discs and pads have also been fitted during their ownership, as well as new fuel injectors.

The most recent MOT test was on 3 September 2020 at 67,416 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The offside rear tyre is an almost brand-new Bridgestone Potenza item, while the other three wheels are fitted with Continental SportContact tyres. All four corners have between 5mm and 6mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying this 996 are the original vehicle handbooks, stamped service book, Porsche Centre guide, and Porsche assistance booklet in their original folder, as well as two keys.

This Porsche 996 40th Anniversary edition is a rare and collectable 911, boasting a specification that Total 911 magazine said “verges on perfection”. It is presented in original and unmodified condition, and would make an engaging and exciting addition to any garage.
