2003 PORSCHE (986) BOXSTER 2.7 - MANUAL

This Porsche 986 Boxster is an original condition, low-mileage example of the entry-level roadster credited with reviving Porsche’s fortunes in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is powered by a 2.7-litre flat-six engine producing 225bhp, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 59,197 miles.

First registered on 10 October 2003, this Boxster is a UK-market car with five previous keepers on the log book. It has been owned by the current vendor for two years.

The 986-generation Boxster – a portmanteau of ‘Boxer’ and ‘Roadster’ – was the first model in the four generations to date. It shared its bonnet, front wings, headlights and engine architecture with the contemporary 996-generation 911 of the time. The specification list of this example can be found below.

Resplendent in the popular shade of Seal Grey metallic, the finish on this example is believed to be original. It boasts a deep metallic shine, with the only visible blemish a light scuff on the lower section of the front bumper.

The Porsche crest, model designation, light lenses and glass are in great condition, with even the centrally-mounted exhaust tip in good order. This Boxster rides on its original five-spoke ‘Carrera’ 18-inch alloy wheels, which are in good order with no kerbing marks. There is minor corrosion apparent on one of the spokes, as pictured.

Moving inside, the cabin is upholstered in black leather. The welcoming seats with optional embossed Porsche crests are in superb condition, with only very light wear to the driver’s bolster. The vendor notes there are some scratches apparent on the centre console around the gearstick and handbrake, which are only small cosmetic imperfections.

There are no pre-existing electrical faults with this car, with the electrically-operated convertible roof in fully working order and fitting snugly to the windscreen frame when raised. Original features include the gear lever and handbrake trims in aluminium, climate control, and heated seats. There is no damage to any of the switchgear.

The most recent maintenance was a minor service, carried out in October 2019 at 58,961 miles by Carr-Tec in Selby. Prior to this, the Boxster underwent a major service with spark plug replacement at 55,940 miles by Strasse in Leeds in July 2018. This full service also included replacement of the engine oil, oil, air and pollen filters, as well as new handbrake shoes, a replacement ignition switch and various suspension components. The brake fluid was also changed.

In August of that year, two suspension top mounts and lower suspension arms were also fitted, as well as a passenger airbag deactivation switch to enable the fitment of a child seat if required. In May 2014, a minor service was carried out by Ricci Concept of Hull. A summary of the service history follows this listing.

The most recent MOT test was on 6 July 2020 at 59,124 miles. This resulted in a first-time pass, with advisories for corrosion on the nearside rear brake pipe and for corrosion on the faces of the front brake discs.

Wearing a mix of Bridgestone Potenza tyres at the front and budget tyres at the rear, these are in good condition with over 5mm of tread apparent on each.

Accompanying this 986-generation Boxster is the original handbooks in their leather-bound wallet, stamped service history and spare tyre with cover.

This facelifted Porsche Boxster 2.7 is an eminently usable and mechanically sound example of the marque’s mid-engine sports car for the noughties. It features relatively low mileage for its age, and is a wonderful weekend car for countryside drives, as well as for longer explorations to the continent.
