2003 PORSCHE 911 (996) CARRERA 4S

This Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is a well-maintained example of the brand’s millennium-era sports car, with relatively low mileage from new. Under the rear decklid is a water-cooled 315bhp, 3.6-litre flat-six, with power delivered to all four wheels via a Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The odometer reads 73,541 miles.

This UK-market 996-generation Carrera 4S was first registered on 1 September 2003, and has six previous keepers on the V5C. It is now offered for sale by the trade.

Finished in the classic shade of Seal Grey metallic, this 996’s paintwork is believed to be original to the car and shows age-related wear. Some stone chips are present on the bonnet and low-slung front end, while a few light scratches can be seen on the doors. Scuffs are present on the driver’s side rear wheel arch where it meets the bumper, though these have previously been touched in. Lens tint film has been applied to the headlights, though otherwise this Porsche remains in cosmetically original condition throughout. Riding on its factory-fitted 18-inch ‘Turbo Twist’ alloy wheels, these are in good order save for some kerbing marks on the offside front rim.

Inside, the 4S’ grey leather interior remains in good order. The optional sport seats feature Porsche embossed crests, with small indentations, some discolouration, and relatively minor driver’s seat bolster wear. The switchgear remains complete, though some age-related marks can be seen on the centre console, handbrake grip, gear lever and dashboard trims. It is equipped with brushed metal sill kick plates and pedals from Porsche tuner TechArt.

This example is equipped with the switchable Porsche Sports Exhaust system, and features an original PCM unit. While the vendor reports that its connection with the amplifier is intermittent, and that sometimes sound is not emitted from the speakers, the other electrical items are in good working order – including the optional tilt-and-slide power sunroof. There are no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard.

This 911 was most recently serviced in June 2020 at 78,550 miles by marque specialist Maundrell of Oxfordshire. This service included replacement of the engine oil and filter, as well as the fitment of a replacement battery, ‘coffin’ suspension control arms, and new air-con condensers. Prior to this, services were carried out by specialist Welsh Porsche in June 2018 at 68,639 miles and November 2016 at 68,552 miles respectively. A summary is included below.

The most recent MOT test was on 23 January 2020 at 68,827 miles. This was a first-time pass with advisories for the condition of all four brake discs, as well as a slight leak from the gearbox oil cooler’s pipework. Riding on Bridgestone front tyres with Pirelli rears, the vendor estimates the Bridgestones to have approximately 5mm of tread remaining, while the Pirellis feature 2.5mm.

This 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is a highly usable example of a sought-after performance car. Presented in an appealing colourway and backed by a solid maintenance history, it could become its next owner’s daily driver, weekend toy or summer road trip companion with ease.
