This Porsche 911 (996) Turbo is a highly desirable modern performance car, presented in a black-on-black colour scheme and with the sought-after X50 Performance Package. It is powered by a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six ‘Mezger’ engine, which sends 444bhp to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 67,000 miles from new.
An original right-hand drive UK market car, this 911 Turbo was first registered on 31 March 2002. It was specified with metallic Black Basalt paintwork over a black interior, which has been extensively trimmed in carbon-fibre. Most notably, it has the optional X50 package, which consists of larger K24 turbochargers and intercoolers, a revised ECU and a quad-pipe exhaust, raising the engine’s output from 414 to 444bhp. The current owner acquired the car in September 2015.
The bodywork remains in excellent condition, with the optional factory-fit Aerokit adding drama to its flowing lines. The original front lip splitter was damaged by some road debris, and the seller replaced it with the clip-on item shown in the photo gallery, which is more flexible and durable. The original item can be provided with the car should the next owner want it. Otherwise, the seller believes that all of the panels are original, with no evidence of any accident damage.
Its Basalt Black paintwork is in great shape, with the front bumper having been resprayed approximately five years ago to correct some scratches. The seller believes that this bumper repaint also involved some blending in across the bonnet and front wings, and the panels all have a smooth and glossy finish. This 996 rides on the correct 18-inch alloys, which are in very good condition, with only one small scratch to the offside rear wheel.
In the cabin, the seats are upholstered in black leather and present superbly, and while there is some general creasing to their bolsters and indentations on their backs, it is entirely commensurate with the car’s age and mileage. Black leather also covers the dashboard, door card inserts and steering wheel and is in good order throughout.
The car has also been fitted with almost every item of optional carbon-fibre interior trim on Porsche’s checklist, with the lightweight material forming the centre console, door handles, air vent surrounds, sill covers, handbrake grip and gear knob. The trim is in very good condition, although the seller does note that there are some small marks and tiny cracks visible in the gel coat.
The seller notes that the driver’s door mirror can be electrically adjusted left to right, but not up and down, and that a recent inspection revealed that only one of the two horns is functioning.
This 996 Turbo has proved to be exceptionally reliable during the current ownership. Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out on 26 September 2019 at 66,479 miles by Cotswold Porsche Specialists. During this work they noted some corrosion on the PAS pipe and a very minor coolant leak around the offside front radiator hose, as well as slight play in a number of suspension components, which were noted as advisories to monitor.
Prior to this, the same garage performed a minor service including an engine oil and brake fluid change in September 2018 at 66,092 miles, and an inspection in September 2017 at 65,750 miles, when the long air-conditioning pipe was renewed. Print-outs from Porsche Bolton show that the radiators and air-conditioning condensers were renewed between 2009 and 2010. The clutch and slave cylinder were also replaced in November 2009 at 45,201 miles, when new suspension lower arms were fitted a full geometry setup was completed.
The car’s most recent MOT test was conducted on 23 September 2019 at 66,464 miles, where it received a first-time pass with no advisories. Indeed, this 996 Turbo boasts a very impressive MOT history, which is testament to its well-maintained condition. The seller is planning to get a new 12-month MOT certificate for the car during the auction.
All four of the tyres are approximately nine years old, with around 5mm of tread remaining on the fronts. The seller notes that the rear tyres are very close to or at the limit where replacement is advised.
Accompanying the car are all of the original handbooks and the stamped service record, plus the space saver wheel, tool kit, jack and two keys.
This Porsche 996 Turbo is a superb modern sports car, which boasts a very high factory specification that includes the coveted X50 Performance Package as well as extensive carbon-fibre interior trim. Well-presented both inside and out, its maintenance history is comprehensive, and it is ready to delight a new owner with the classic 911 Turbo blend of refinement, usability and thrilling performance.
