2002 PORSCHE 911 (996) GT2

This Porsche 911 GT2 is an immaculately presented, low-ownership example of the fearsome ‘Widowmaker’, the flagship 996 model in terms of outright performance. Its 3.6-litre ‘Mezger’ twin-turbocharged flat-six produces 456bhp and 472lb-ft of torque, delivered via a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 16,808 miles from new.

The GT2 has notable mechanical and cosmetic differences from the rest of the 996 model range, which include the deeper front bumper and lip spoiler, large rear wing, and the addition of carbon-ceramic brake discs. Its chassis also features rose-joint support bearings rather than rubber mounts, and both camber and ride height can be adjusted.

First registered on 6 November 2002, this entirely original, UK-market GT2 has had five owners including the current seller. After six years of ownership, the vehicle is now offered for sale having recently undergone recommissioning after coming out of storage.

Finished in Polar Silver paintwork, the seller reports that this GT2 presents in remarkably good condition. There are no obvious imperfections in the finish, which retains a bright metallic sparkle throughout. Paint protection film is also applied around the front end and wing mirrors.

As you would expect from a car which has been carefully stored, the light lenses and badges have not suffered from deterioration, and still present superbly. The five-spoke 18-inch lightweight wheels are entirely unmarked, with the Porsche carbon ceramic yellow brake calipers also in great shape.

The cabin is in superb original condition throughout, with black leather seats free from of damage, and embossed with the Porsche crest. The driver’s seat exhibits minor creasing in the lower bolster from entering and exiting the vehicle. Only a handful of minor scratches are present on the rear shell of the driver’s bucket seat.

The original HVAC and infotainment units are present, and the plastic dash trims and switchgear are all in impressive condition. Its interior is also equipped with a half roll cage. The vendor notes that there are no pre-existing faults or electrical issues with the 911.

Fresh from a major service by Porsche specialist Fearnsport in August 2020, which included a new auxiliary drive belt, the GT2 has covered barely any distance this work was carried out.

The most recent MOT test was on 11 August 2020 at 16,800 miles, resulting in a clean pass with no advisories. The previous MOT test was in December 2006, as the car has been in storage since then – though has been regularly serviced while in the vendor’s care.

As part of its recent overhaul, the Porsche wears brand-new matching Michelin Pilot Sport tyres all round, in the correct staggered sizing of 315/30/ZR18 rear and 255/40/ZR18 front.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books in the Porsche, including the stamped maintenance record that shows the history prior to storage, and while in the seller’s ownership most recently.

A rare opportunity to acquire one of the marque’s landmark limited-production models, this Porsche 996 GT2 is in original and unmolested condition, and has genuine low mileage. Now ready for the road again after a period spent in secure storage, it is ready to thrill another enthusiast on the road or track and would be a worthy addition to any Porsche collection.
