2002 PORSCHE 911 (996) CARRERA 4

This 2002 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4 is an eminently usable modern classic sports car, presented in excellent condition, and in its original specification. It is equipped with the 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing around 315bhp, coupled with the desirable six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 60,796 miles from new.

First registered in October 2002, this 996 has five previous owners on the log book. It has been with its current keeper for the last seven years.

Today, the bodywork and the rare Lapis Blue finish of this 996 present in excellent condition. The vendor notes that in 2017, a car impacted with the rear of this car, after that car itself was also rear-ended. However, there was no structural damage whatsoever – which was confirmed by a full alignment check – and the cosmetic damage to the body panels was repaired with new OEM parts where needed, with all work done at a Porsche-approved body shop. At the same time, the vendor decided to have the front re-sprayed to eradicate stone chips and scratches.

Having recently had a further refresh on the front bumper, wings and bonnet to rectify minor dents and larger chips, the condition of the paintwork is now described as being excellent, with the vendor noting three minor chips and a small scratch to the offside front wing – with the latter looking like it will polish out. The car rides on a set of 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are in very good order, and have coloured Porsche crest centre caps.

Moving inside, the Graphite Grey leather upholstery is described as being in good order for the age and mileage, showing only modest wear in general, and slightly more discolouration on the driver’s outer seat bolster – which could of course be easily improved by re-connolising. An aftermarket Bluetooth unit has been attached to the rear of the original stereo, though the vendor points out that it is no longer appearing on wireless searches. It may need refurbishing, or could simply be removed to leave the original stereo as fitted. Otherwise, all of the car’s electrics are reported to work as they should, and there are no warning lights on the dashboard.

The last service was undertaken in December 2019 at 59,573 miles, where technicians at Porsche specialist Advanced Car Care in Bristol carried out annual routine maintenance. A new glove box catch was also fitted as a follow-up in January 2020. Prior to this, in January 2019 at 58,000 miles, similar routine maintenance was undertaken. During the vendor’s ownership, new front and rear brake discs and pads were fitted in 2018, along with window regulators, the coil packs were replaced in 2017, new exhaust flanges and coffin arms were installed in 2016, and a new clutch, dual-mass flywheel, and rear main seal (RMS) were fitted in 2014.

The most recent MOT test was on 28 January 2020 at 59,771 miles, which resulted in a pass with just one advisory to monitor a perishing fuel cap seal – which was subsequently replaced. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Pirelli P Zero tyres, which were fitted new in January 2020 at 59,000 miles.

Accompanying the vehicle is the original leather book pack, including the owner’s manual, stamped service book, and stereo instruction manual, as well as a selection of maintenance invoices dating back to 2003. A comprehensive list of maintenance during the vendor’s ownership is included below, along with all previous services at Porsche Centre Solihull.

This Porsche 996 Carrera 4 is an exciting yet practical modern classic, benefitting from regular maintenance throughout its life, and which remains generally superb and unmodified. Combining an engaging analogue driving experience with genuine everyday usability, this 911 would be a smart addition to any collection, and is even sensible enough to be a daily driver if the next owner so desired.
