2002 PORSCHE 911 (996) CARRERA

This 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera is a striking and usable example of a superb sports car, presented in a rare factory colour combination and benefitting from recent maintenance. Under the rear engine cover is the water-cooled 3.6-litre naturally aspirated straight-six, which drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission for maximum driver involvement. The odometer displays 61,327 miles from new.

First registered in March 2002, this original UK-market 996-generation Carrera was specified in the lesser-seen factory hue of Ocean Jade metallic, with a bold Nephrite Green leather interior. The seller acquired the car around one year ago, and is now offering it for sale.

Today, this Carrera’s curvaceous bodywork is free of any accident damage, dents or other defects, and is in excellent overall condition. The vibrant Ocean Jade metallic paintwork also presents well, with a bright and glossy appearance around the car and only a few stone chips to its surface, commensurate with the car’s age and mileage.

Its shapely curves have also been enhanced by a factory-fitted fixed rear spoiler and side skirts, and a GT3 front splitter has also been added later in its life. The car rides on a set of 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are in great shape, being refurbished some time ago with smart silver paintwork and full-colour Porsche crest centre caps.

In the cabin, Nephrite Green leather and matching carpets create an interior environment quite unlike those seen in other examples. Featuring extended leather upholstery, this 911’s upper door cards, full dashboard and centre console are all clad in the material, along with the front and rear seats, which are in very good overall condition, with only some minor age-related creasing to their upholstery and a slight mark on the back of the front passenger seat.

Elsewhere, the vibrant interior trims present very well, and while there is some slight wear and discolouration on the steering wheel’s green leather-wrapped rim, this is in line with the car’s use to date. All of the car’s buttons, switches and electrical items work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Offered in superb mechanical order, this 996-generation 911 Carrera has been routinely serviced, and any typical problem areas have been tackled proactively. Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out in July 2020 at 59,958 miles by Porsche specialist GCR Central, which changed the engine oil and oil filter, brake fluid and spark plugs. Prior to this, in September 2018 at 59,191 miles an oil service was carried out and the sunroof seal and windscreen wiper blades were replaced. Another minor service was carried out in October 2017 at 58,369 miles.

During the seller’s ownership, the IMS bearing has also been replaced, along with the clutch, flywheel and coil packs. The car is almost entirely standard, save for its GT3 front splitter, side skirts, and the Dansk sports silencer, while RSS semi-solid engine mounts were fitted in July 2020.

Its latest MOT test was conducted in October 2020 at 61,151 miles, resulting in a clean pass with no advisories. The front wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres in size 225/40 ZR 18, which date to May 2016 and are in good condition with around 5mm of usable tread remaining. The rear wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport items, which were fitted in July 2020 and are described by the vendor as being in as-new condition.

Accompanying this almost certainly unique 911 are all of its original handbooks, documentation of its full service history, its original order sheet and invoiced and its full original tool kit.

This Porsche 911 Carrera is a capable everyday sports car, which is finished in a striking factory colour combination which is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. Not for the shy and retiring; this is a car for someone who has been seeking a 996 that stands out from the crowd. Almost entirely original and very well-cared for, it is in excellent mechanical order, making this unique future modern classic a reliable and engaging choice for the discerning driver.
