2001 PORSCHE (986) BOXSTER S - 70TH ANNIVERSARY

This 2001 Porsche Boxster S is a rare and stunning modern classic sports car, which was extensively restored by Porsche GB in 2018 to to celebrate the marque’s 70th anniversary. Under the engine cover is a fully rebuilt 3.2-litre flat-six engine, producing around 250bhp, driving the rear wheels through a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 98,516 miles, though the car has covered just over 500 miles since its renovation.

Marking the brand’s 70th anniversary in 2018, Porsche GB commissioned a total of 20 restorations completed within its dealer network and repair centres. Of these, 10 were the 986 Boxster S model, and just five were from the 2001 model year like this car.

Every car which was reworked under the programme was subjected to a full, bare-metal rebuild, with every item, from their engine to interior trim being tended to. All 20 cars were finished with Liquid Silver paintwork – introduced on the landmark 918 Spyder hybrid supercar – with gloss black wheels and uniquely trimmed interiors.

This particular 986-generation Boxster S was first registered on 4 October 2001 and as well as its unique colour scheme, it also features special decals on both front wings, a metal plaque in the cabin denoting it as one of the 70th anniversary cars, and a matt black sports exhaust. The current owner acquired the car one year ago, and is now offering it for sale, having kept the car safely stored and garaged when not in use.

Having been rebuilt and refurbished by Porsche main dealer technicians and specialists, this Boxster S’ bodywork is in excellent, unmarked condition, with the stunning Liquid Silver paintwork emphasising its sweeping curves. No element of the car has been left untouched and the convertible hood, rubber seals and light lenses are all in as-new condition.

As with the rest of the 70th Anniversary collection cars, its five-spoke alloy wheels have been finished with gloss black paintwork and are pristine, without any signs of damage to their surfaces.

In the cabin, fresh black leather covers most of the surfaces and has a smooth, matt appearance throughout. The seats are trimmed in black leather for the bolsters and surrounds, with retro-style Porsche script fabric centre panels. There are also Porsche crests embossed on the headrests. It is clear at a glance that this is far from an ordinary 2001 Boxster S.

This air of exclusivity is solidified by the inclusion of a brushed metal plaque which is fitted on the bulkhead between the passenger seats, denoting the car as a ‘70th Anniversary Porsche Classic Special Edition’. Black carpeting is fitted throughout, which is in great shape. All of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work correctly and without fault.

Its last service was carried out by Porsche Centre Cardiff as part of its full restoration in 2018, with the odometer reading around 98,000 miles.

An MOT test was conducted on 18 April 2019 at 98,363 miles, which it passed with no advisories. All four of its Michelin tyres are in excellent condition with ample tread.

This Porsche 986 Boxster S is a pristine, limited-build example of the compact and engaging sports car. It has been fully restored by the manufacturer, and is now finished in a bespoke and incredibly rare colour scheme. The car presents in as-new condition, and would make a fine addition to any Porsche collection – though of course this well-balanced mid-engined roadster also deserves to be enjoyed on the road as often as possible.
