2001 PORSCHE 911 (996) CARRERA 4

This 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a smart example of the eminently usable sports car, which benefits from a recent engine rebuild and is presented in a timeless colour scheme. It is powered by a 300bhp 3.4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six and drives all four wheels via an engaging six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 128,426 miles from new.

An original right-hand drive UK-market car, this 996-generation Carrera 4 was first registered in March 2001. The current owner has driven the car as intended since acquiring it in October 2017, and is now offering it for sale.

Today, the bodywork presents very well, and the vendor does not believe the car has suffered from any prior accident damage. In line with this 911’s age, it does feature some minor marks and blemishes, including a small parking dent on the passenger-side rear quarter panel and a light scuff on the front bumper; however, its Basalt Black paintwork is in good overall condition, and was detailed and coated with a graphene sealant in March 2021. The exterior trim including the Litronic headlight lenses is also very smart, and the rubber window and door seals are in great shape. The car rides on its original set of 18-inch five-spoke ‘Turbo Twist’ alloys, which have recently been refurbished and are immaculate, save for a slight scuff on one wheel only.

Stepping inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leather and it shows minimal signs of wear for a car of this mileage. Both of the front seats are in good order, with some general creasing to their surfaces and minor scuffs and scratches on their backs, but there are no rips or tears to their upholstery. As this 911 has been driven and enjoyed over the years, its steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever are slightly worn, but this certainly does not detract from the presentable condition of the interior. The car is still fitted with its original Porsche CDR-22 stereo, while a 3D-printed cupholder has been fitted in place of its ashtray for added convenience (and the original ashtray is provided with the car). All of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work without fault, and the vendor reports that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard,

Maintained regardless of cost, with £16,000 of work being carried out in the last four years – including an engine rebuild accompanied by a new clutch and upgraded IMS bearing, and refurbishment of the suspension, brake and air-con systems – this modern classic 911 is in impressive mechanical order.

Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out in September 2020 at 127,926 miles by Porsche specialist Nine Excellence. This comprised replacement of the engine oil, oil filter, pollen filter and brake fluid, while the alternator belt, oxygen sensor, steering rack boot and fuel cap were also replaced at a total cost of £1,175. Prior to this, oil services were carried out in October 2019 at 125,795 miles and in August 2018 at 123,205 miles.

During the seller’s ownership a number of other service items have been replaced, including the spark plugs, coil packs and battery, which were changed in May 2019 at 124,382 miles, when the rear dampers, anti-roll bar bushes, drop links and inner and outer track rods were also replaced. Furthermore, the car has been subtly enhanced with the addition of a BMC air filter (original OEM system included in the sale) and a Dansk sports exhaust, as well as 993 RS engine mounts for improved throttle response.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 18 September 2020 at 127,936 miles. This resulted in a first-time pass with advisories for wear to the front brake discs, some grease on the front brake pipes and slight deterioration of the nearside front brake hose – however Nine Excellence stated that these were not significant issues following their inspection. All four wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, which are around two years old and have ample usable tread remaining.

This Carrera 4 will be accompanied by its original service book documenting the comprehensive stamped history – as summarised below – as well as a ring binder containing further documentation of its history.

Maintained to a high standard and benefitting from a recent engine rebuild, this Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a tidy and well-loved example of the 996-generation sports car. Combining an engaging manual transmission with a surefooted all-wheel drive system, this modern classic will be equally at home on winding country lanes as it will be tackling the daily commute.
