2001 BMW (E39) 530i M SPORT

This BMW 530i is a highly original example of the marque’s E39-era executive saloon, fitted with the optional M Sport package. This example is finished with glossy black paintwork and comes supported by a solid maintenance history. Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing 228bhp, coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 78,312 miles from new.

First registered in April 2001, this 530i has just three previous keepers on the log book. The vendor, who is a keen BMW enthusiast and collector, has owned the car for around one year.

Painted in a gleaming black finish, and free of corrosion and dents, the bodywork of this BMW 530i presents very well with only minor imperfections. Some superficial marks are visible in the photo gallery, and undoubtedly a full machine polish would enhance the appearance. The front and rear bumpers have previously been resprayed due to stone chips, while the headlights have been restored to remove clouding. The car’s badging and body trims appear as they should, and the five-arm double-spoke 17-inch alloys are pristine.

Moving inside, the black leather upholstery remains in great shape, presenting with some minor creasing but no significant wear or unsightly discolouration. The M-badged door sill covers appear to be free of any major scuffs, as do the door panels. The vendor has described the headlining and carpet as being in excellent condition, while the instrument gauges and dashboard controls are also in very good order. It has been fitted with an upgraded entertainment system that now allows for a DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation, though the original BMW Business stereo is included in the sale. This BMW is also equipped with factory parking sensors on both the front and rear.

The last service was undertaken in September 2019 at 73,938 miles, where technicians at T.Hunn Cars in Merton changed the engine oil and filter. Prior to this, in November 2018 at 72,153 miles, Merry’s Garage in Coventry carried out a BMW Inspection II and oil service. A full summary of the maintenance history is included below.

The most recent MOT test was on 9 November 2020 at 78,320 miles, which resulted in a pass with only one advisory to monitor wear on the rear brake pads. A review of its MOT history shows that there has never been any advisory or warning relating to corrosion on any components or the chassis – which suggests it has been carefully stored and maintained throughout its life. The tyres are reported to have ample tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle is the original handbook pack, along with the stamped service book and a number of MOT certificates and service invoices. Some services are not stamped in the record, but there is documentation to evidence the maintenance.

This BMW 530i M Sport is a well-maintained example of a stylish modern classic, with a good service history and a timeless black-on-black colour scheme. It would make a comfortable and refined daily driver, or could be used more sparingly for road trips or weekend cruising. Whatever the desired use, it should prove to be a great value acquisition for its next owner.
