2001 BMW ALPINA (E39) B10 3.3 SALOON

This Alpina B10 3.3 is a handsome, low-mileage example of the manufacturer’s E39 5 Series-based luxury performance saloon. Powered by a 3.3-litre straight-six engine producing 280bhp and 247lb-ft of torque, it is driven through the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. The odometer indicates just 51,649 miles from new.

First registered on 3 October 2001, this original UK-market car has five previous registered keepers on the log book. It is now offered for sale by the trade, with the cherished ‘B10 MXM’ number plate included in the sale.

This generation of Alpina B10 was available from new in saloon or Touring guises, combining performance above that of a 528i or 530i, but with the comfort and understated design expected of an Alpina.

The Orient Blue metallic paintwork is in good overall condition, with age-related wear to the original finish. The seller notes that the nearside rear bumper corner has a handful of light scuffs, while the offside wing mirror is also marked. There is a light dusting of small stone chips to the front end. The seller states that it would benefit from a thorough professional machine polish. This powerful saloon wears the correct Alpina 18-inch alloy wheels, with two of the centre caps showing signs of corrosion, but no visible kerbing marks.

On the inside, the cabin is upholstered in its original Sand Beige leather and dashboard trim, which is in very good condition throughout. The driver’s seat exhibits signs of wear and would benefit from re-connolising, but is otherwise intact with no rips or tears present. Original Alpina features including the model plaque, stitched carpets, branded kick plates and re-trimmed steering wheel are present, highlighting the originality of this example.

The vendor notes that the previous owner had the LCD display professionally repaired to correct the ‘pixel death’ which can afflict E39-generation BMWs.  All electronics are in full working order, including the electrically-operated front seats with driver’s memory function.

The last service was carried out in September 2019 at 49,857 miles by KRC Motors Ltd. This constituted an oil and filter change, as well as replacement spark plugs. Prior to this, its most recent maintenance visits were an Inspection I service in May 2016 at 42,715 miles, and an Inspection II service carried out in September 2014 at 38,859 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 21 April 2020 at 51,417 miles. This resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. Shod in matching Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres all round, these are in the correct fitment of 235/40/ZR18 front and 265/35/ZR18 rear.

This Bavarian luxury express will reach its next owner with its original BMW tool kit, original handbooks with leather Alpina wallet, and stamped service history with supporting invoices. Two keys will also be included.

Combining elegant design with effortless naturally-aspirated performance, this Alpina B10 3.3 is a well-maintained and low-mileage example. It would make for a reliable and unusual daily driver, a fun weekend toy or - with a little cosmetic attention - a show-worthy example.

All cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
