2000 PORSCHE 911 (996) TURBO

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre ‘Mezger’ engine with 414bhp, and driven through all four wheels, the Porsche 996 Turbo is a potent and capable variant of this 911 model that offers a compelling blend of modern performance with an analogue character. In this case, the engine is paired with the desirable six-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in the perennially popular combination of Arctic Silver with a black leather interior. The odometer shows 76,254 miles from new.

First registered on 15 November 2000, the car has been owned by the seller for more than 10 years. In this time, the car has covered around 14,000 miles. It remains in original condition throughout, save for the addition of a 200 CEL Milltek sports exhaust system, and is presented in superb condition.

The bodywork and paint present very well, with crisp shut lines. The silver finish looks smooth and even all around the car, with the seller noting only minor stone chips to the front, a light scratch on the nearside C-pillar, and one or two very small chips elsewhere. There is also one very small area of corrosion on the driver’s sill cover, at the front of the kick plate, which is shown in the photo gallery below. Under the engine lid, the flat-six and ancillaries are clean and tidy, and at the front of the car the boot area houses the original tool kit, spare wheel, and air compressor.

All of the light lenses are in good order, as are the window and door rubbers. There are a few small nicks on the front lip spoiler, but generally it presents very well. The 18-inch Turbo alloy wheels are in excellent condition, fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres all round, all tyres having approximately 5mm - 6mm of tread remaining.

In the cabin, the black leather interior is in excellent condition, with only very minor wear and surface creasing on the driver’s seat. Otherwise, the upholstery is in superb order throughout. There are very few scuffs and scratches on the interior plastics, and the black carpets are in great shape. This example was specified from the factory with the electric sunroof, CDR-22 stereo – which it retains – aluminium inlays for the gear knob and handbrake lever, and a body-coloured centre console through the Porsche Exclusive programme.

The car is in excellent condition mechanically, with the most recent maintenance being an annual service by Porsche specialist Redline Racing on 26 May 2020. The two services prior to this were a minor service including geometry check in May 2019 at Redline Racing, and a major service and a replacement Cardan shaft on 4th May 2018 at Porsche Centre Teesside. Its most recent MOT test was on 31 October 2019 at 75,885 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever.

The car has a full service history from both main dealers and Porsche specialists, a detailed summary of which is provided below. Also listed is a rundown of other maintenance and replacement items, which included a new clutch at approximately 60,000 miles. In 2012, its nearside turbocharger was overhauled, while the offside turbocharger was replaced, and in late 2019 a reconditioned steering rack and starter motor were installed. The seller reports the rear spoiler warning light does occasionally light up, however the hydraulic function of the spoiler is not affected. This minor fault has been investigated on multiple occasions with no issue diagnosed.

This Porsche 996 Turbo is one of the consummate all-season supercars, delivering an involving and exciting driving experience. It boasts impressive performance, and given this car’s comprehensive maintenance from new, it should prove to be very reliable as well. Sold with an excellent history file, folders containing invoices covering all work carried out over the last 11 years, and all of its original books, this is a great opportunity to acquire a smartly presented and well cared-for 911.
