2000 PORSCHE 911 (996) CARRERA CABRIOLET

This Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet is a highly original example of a capable and exciting open-top sports car, benefiting from a recent total engine rebuild and IMS upgrade. Under the engine lid is a 3.4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six producing 300bhp, with rear-wheel drive via a five-speed Tiptronic S transmission with steering wheel-mounted gear shift buttons.

First registered on 1 March 2000, there are four previous registered keepers on the log book. The seller has owned the car for the last year.

Its bodywork is reported to be in excellent condition, with no evidence of any panel damage, and what is believed to be largely original Arctic Silver paint throughout. The seller reports that the front and rear bumpers have been tidied up to rectify stone chips and some minor car park scuffs. There are small imperfections elsewhere as shown in the gallery. Its black fabric roof has no rips or tears, and it fits well over the frame, with the mechanism also working perfectly.

The plastic guards ahead of the rear wheels are slightly misaligned, so would benefit from refixing, but otherwise the body trims appear to be in good order, and the light lenses are free of damage. The car rides on 17-inch ‘Twist’ Porsche alloy wheels, which present well for a 20-year-old car, with only relatively minor blemishes.

In the cabin, this 996 was specified with black leather for the dashboard and door panels, as well as full leather seats throughout, and with electric adjustment at the front. The leather is in generally good condition, with the most noticeable wear and discolouration on the driver’s side bolster. The interior appears to be entirely original, with the exception of the more contemporary Pioneer touch-screen media system.

It is fitted with the Tiptronic S gearbox, which means there are manual shift controls on the steering wheel like a contemporary PDK system. The seller states that there are no warning lights on the dashboard, and no known faults with any of the switchgear or electrics. Its original wind deflector remains with the car, stored in the luggage compartment.

This 996 Carrera is reported to be in very strong mechanical order, benefiting from a recent engine rebuild by the seller’s own business, Porsche specialist SVP Motorsport. This included an upgraded IMS bearing, new cylinder liners, replacement timing chains and tensioners, and new spark plugs and ignition coils. The service history records the rebuild taking place in January 2020 at 139,390 miles, with a subsequent follow-up service at 140,075 miles in March 2020.

Prior to this, the history indicates regular servicing from new, with a summary below and the original service book shown in the gallery. The invoices in the file show a previous engine rebuild in July 2015 at 128,515 miles. However, subsequent paperwork indicates that this may have failed due to a cylinder head fault, which would account for the more recent second rebuild.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 9 January 2020 at 139,391 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The wheels are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres in size 205/50 ZR17 at the front and 225/40 ZR17 at the rear, which are all date-coded to 2017 with ample tread remaining.

Accompanying the car are all of the original handbooks, a comprehensive service history record, and the black book wallet. Two keys are also present, along with the space-saver spare wheel, locking wheel nut key, and the wind deflector.

This Porsche 911 Carrera is a sound example of the 996 Cabriolet model, presented in good order for its age, and reported to be in excellent mechanical health following the total engine rebuild with an all-important IMS upgrade. It should prove to be a great value purchase for its next owner, delivering the unmistakable 911 driving experience all year round if the next owner so desires - with the heater on and the roof up through winter, or fully exposed to the fresh air on warm summer weekends.
