2000 PORSCHE 911 (996) CARRERA 4

This Porsche 996 Carrera 4 is an excellent example of an eminently usable sports car, presented in an eye-catching factory colour. It is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six engine producing 300hp, with all-wheel drive via the five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission with shift buttons on the steering wheel. The odometer shows 71,320 miles from new.

First registered in April 2000, there are five previous keepers on the log book. The seller has owned the Porsche for only a few months, but is now relocating to a property without a garage, and so is offering the car for sale.

The bodywork and paint of this 911 are in excellent condition, and the seller states that it has previously been exhibited at numerous shows. He notes a very small blemish on one of the front wings. Otherwise, the Rainforest Green finish looks smooth and even all around the car, with only the odd small stone chip from road use.

It is equipped with a rear wiper, as well as the desirable sports exhaust system. All of the light lenses are in great shape, as are the window and door seals. The car rides on a set of 18-inch ‘Turbo Twist’ alloy wheels, which are pristine, complemented by silver painted brake calipers.

In the cabin, the seats, door cards, and dashboard panels are trimmed in Graphite Grey leather. All of the upholstery presents well, with only moderate wear commensurate with the mileage. It is equipped with electrically adjustable comfort seats, as well as cruise control, which makes this a great car for longer road trips. It is fitted with the quicker and smoother Tiptronic S gearbox, which means there are manual shift controls on the steering wheel like a contemporary PDK system. Other factory-fitted features include a power sunroof, climate control, heated rear screen, and Blaupunkt stereo and CD player.

The last scheduled maintenance was carried out in October 2019 at A for Audi Ltd in Glasgow. This consisted of a full service, as well as renewal of the front and rear suspension arms, ‘coffin’ wishbone control arms, and the rear exhaust section. The total cost of the work was £3,484.

Its most recent MOT test was on 24 October 2019 at 69,690 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories whatsoever. The previous UK test was in 2016, and for the period prior to this the car was in Ireland. The wheels are fitted with budget tyres in size 225/40 ZR18 at the front and Falken performance tyres in size 295/30 ZR18 at the rear. All of the tyres are in good condition, with plenty of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is a complete book pack and wallet, including the driver’s manual and the stamped guarantee and maintenance record. There are 10 stamps in the booklet, and the history file also includes numerous receipts for maintenance, previous log book documents, and old tax discs. Two original keys are also present.

This Porsche 996 Carrera 4 is an excellent example of the breed, and boasts an unusual but very smart factory specification. With all-wheel drive, this is a 911 that can easily be enjoyed all year round, and the Tiptronic S gearbox gives more control to the driver over the standard automatic. This is a practical modern classic that could easily be put into use as a great daily driver.
