2000 BMW ALPINA (E39) B10 3.3 SALOON - MANUAL

This 2000 Alpina (E39) B10 is a well-maintained modern classic with a desirable specification, which combines practicality and performance in spades. It is equipped with a modified version of ‘M52’ straight-six, taken to a 3.3-litre displacement, and producing around 276bhp and 247lb/ft of torque, coupled with the lesser-seen five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 146,626 miles from new.

The 3.3-litre version of the E39 B10 features significant upgrades over the standard BMW on which it is based, including a machined cylinder head and a modified pistons, crankshaft and camshaft. Greater air flow was achieved by modifying the intake, while Alpina also upgraded the ECU and collaborated with Bosal to fit a stainless steel exhaust. Underneath, the B10 rides on modified Sachs springs and shock absorbers for a lower ride height. First registered in October 2000, this example is now offered for sale by the trade.

The bodywork is all in excellent shape, and its Avus Blue paintwork has benefited from a prior respray. The condition of the finish has been described as good, with small stone chips on the bonnet and rear end, and slight corrosion at the bottom of the driver’s door. The body trims, headlight lenses and distinctive rear spoiler all present well, while the car rides on a set of 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, which are in good condition.

Inside, the heated seats are trimmed with light grey leather, which has been reconditioned and presents with just some light creasing and modest wear. The leather-clad door cards have developed a pleasing patina, while the walnut veneer which continues through the dashboard and centre console is free of any major marks. The vendor reports the dashboard display has slight pixelation, while the steering wheel is worn with age and use, though all of the electrics are believed to work as they should.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken at 146,000 miles, where Barney Lynes carried out a full service and replaced the belts. Prior to this, in August 2016 at 146,159 miles, technicians at Car Tech in Wiltshire carried out an oil and filter change, before replacing the offside rear wheel bearing, rear brake flex hoses, and rear anti-roll bar links. Routine maintenance was also carried out at 115,016 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 9 September 2020 at 146,601 miles, which resulted in a pass with one advisory to monitor slightly worn front and rear brake discs. The tyres are reported to be in good condition.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s handbooks and service book in their factory wallet, along with a selection of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates. The appropriate cherished registration ‘B10 RYA’ is also included in the sale.

This Alpina B10 3.3 is a coveted bespoke performance saloon, with a smart colour scheme and the rarer manual gearbox. An unmodified example, this B10 would make a fun weekend companion, or could easily be put into service as a fun daily driver.
