1999 PORSCHE (986) BOXSTER 2.5

This 1999 Porsche (986) Boxster is a low-mileage, one-owner example of an acclaimed mid-engined sports car, presented in excellent condition throughout. It is equipped with the 2.5-litre M96 flat-six engine producing around 201bhp, which drives the rear wheels via the marque’s smooth Tiptronic automatic transmission. The odometer shows just 40,118 miles from new.

First registered in July 1999, this Boxster has been in the possession of its first and only keeper for the last 21 years. While an original UK-specification right-hand drive car, it was purchased new from Pon Porsche Centre in Amersfoort, Holland in June 1999, before being imported to the UK three days later.

In April 2002, an offside impact with a motorcycle meant that a number of repairs needed to be carried out. According to the Porsche Lifetime Guarantee of Repair booklet, this included the renewal of the offside door, sill panel, wheels, front wing and front screen. The offside front wing, door, sill panel and rear wing were resprayed, along with the bonnet, screen frame, nearside wings and nearside door. The vendor indicates the repair has the benefit of coverage from the Porsche Lifetime Guarantee of Repair service, for which all of the required annual inspections have been carried out, with stamped evidence in the corresponding maintenance booklet. This damage was not significant enough to be an insurance write-off – and so the car remains HPI clear.

The bodywork now presents with smooth panels, flush shut lines and no evidence of the previous repairs. The condition of the silver paintwork has been described as excellent, presenting with just a few minor age-related blemishes on the boot lid, nearside wing mirror, nearside front wheel arch apron and the leading edge of the driver’s door. However, the paintwork retains a neat appearance, and the body trims are all in good shape.

This Boxster comes with the original and desirable factory hard top, giving it greater year-round usability, and also has the wall storage unit. The vehicle rides on a set of 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are in superb condition on all four corners, commensurate with the low mileage.

Moving inside, the grey leather upholstery is in great shape, and is entirely original, presenting with just some modest creasing from age and considerate use. The vendor indicates the driver’s interior door sill is scuffed, but the main touchpoints and dashboard trim are in good order. The radio is known not to turn on at the first attempt, but otherwise, the switchgear is reported to be in good working order and there are no warning lights present on the dashboard.

The vendor indicates all routine servicing has been carried out by Porsche Centre Bournemouth. In June/July 2020, Porsche Centre Bournemouth technicians replaced the alternator, and the relays for the rear fog lamps and electric heated seat, and the AA replaced the battery. The last routine maintenance took place in January 2019 at 39,373 miles, comprising a minor service and brake fluid change.

Prior to this, in August 2016 at 35,950 miles, a major service was carried out alongside another brake fluid change and the fitment of new spark plugs and a new drive belt. A new key was also supplied at this time. In December 2013, at 34,299 miles, minor routine maintenance was carried out, including a brake fluid change and the fitment of new brake discs, pads and wear sensors.

The most recent MOT test was on 3 July 2020 at 40,068 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The vehicle previously failed a test on 30 June 2020 at 40,052 miles, due to an inoperative rear fog lamp, though this was rectified immediately. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Pirelli P Zero tyres, which are all reported to have between 5-6mm of tread remaining. The vendor indicates the rears are four years old, while the fronts were fitted seven and eleven years ago respectively.

Accompanying the vehicle are the factory hard top and its wall storage unit, the original owner’s manual and service book and wallet, as well as the Lifetime Guarantee of Repair booklet, the radio/CD manual, the original purchase and registration documents, numerous invoices, and the full factory toolkit.

This Porsche 986 Boxster is a very smart one-owner example of the breed, with low mileage and an excellent Porsche main dealer service history. Having benefitted from careful indoor storage when not in use, this Boxster presents in impressive condition for its age, and would undoubtedly prove to be a brisk and enjoyable B-road companion.
