1999 PORSCHE (986) BOXSTER - 42,433 MILES FROM NEW

This 1999 Porsche (986) Boxster is a wonderful low-mileage example of the pre-facelift mid-engined roadster. Powered by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission, this example has covered just 42,433 miles from new.

First registered on 12 March 1999, this Boxster is a great example of the model often credited for ‘saving’ Porsche thanks to its runaway sales success. Having owned the car for one year, the vendor reports that this 986 has wanted for nothing, with a routine major service carried out around six months ago.

The Arctic Silver bodywork is believed to have had remedial paintwork at some point to rectify minor marks, and as a result it presents in good condition throughout. There are some marks around the body, including small stone chips to the front end, and some slight surface corrosion visible along the underbody – though nothing significant enough to be picked up on in the most recent MOT test. The folding soft top looks to be in very good shape with no discolouration to the rear window.

Inside, the cabin of this Boxster appears to be in excellent condition. Some wear to the lower seat cushions and outer bolsters is present, though this is commensurate with the low mileage. The carpets and Porsche are all in good order, as are the door cards, gear shifter and steering wheel. There are no reported faults, nor are there any warning lights on the dashboard.

The most recent service took place at 42,341 miles in October 2020, and was carried out by Porsche specialist Zuffenhaus in Worcestershire. This work comprised of a major service including new spark plugs, coil packs and auxiliary belts. Prior to this, the vehicle was serviced in 2017 at 39,258 miles.

The latest MOT test took place on 28 August 2020 and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. All four tyres are in good condition with approximately 4mm of tread all round. Included with the vehicle are the original Porsche servicing record and handbooks, along with a large file of miscellaneous history including invoices and other documentation.

This Porsche 986 Boxster is a rewarding sports car with impressive on-road performance from the mid-mounted 2.5-litre engine. While modern performance cars move increasingly towards turbocharged-only engines and automatic transmissions, the combination of a naturally aspirated flat-six and manual gearbox becomes ever more compelling. Benefitting from low mileage and a recent full service, this Boxster would make a great value summer roadster, or a fine addition to any assembly of modern classics.
