1999 BMW K1200RS

KEY FACTS

  • Cherished throughout its long-term ownership, this is a wonderful example of the ‘sports touring’ bike with low mileage.
  • Power comes from a 1171cc longitudinal inline-four engine, coupled to a six-speed transmission.
  • Originally a demonstrator, this bike was purchased direct from the dealership by the vendor, who is the sole private owner of the bike since new.
  • Potential bidders should note that the bike is currently stored off road under a valid SORN.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Its specification includes a tank bag, tail bag, two panniers with inner bags, raised handle bar brackets, a touring screen, comfort seat, heated grips, and it comes complete with an all-weather cover.
  • No modifications have been made to the bike.
  • Included with the sale are the original owner’s manual, stamped service record, workshop manual, puncture repair kit, touch-up paint and numerous spare parts.

CONDITION

  • There is no damage to the bodywork or the frame.
  • The paintwork is in excellent condition, and is original throughout. As the photo gallery shows, it has evidently been ridden considerately and stored carefully over the last 22 years.
  • The wheels are in great shape, as are the areas around the rear of the tank, seat and handle bars.
  • There are no known faults with the bike, though the vendor notes a new battery is required to get it up and running again.
  • On account of being under a SORN, the bike currently does not have a valid MOT certificate, with the most recent having been issued on 17 May 2016, showing no advisories and a first-time pass.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The most recent service took place in May 2016 at 15,359 miles and comprised of a standard inspection service carried out by John Clark Tayside BMW.
  • Prior to this, the bike was also serviced in April 2015 at 15,319 miles and in April 2013 at 15,094 miles.

SUMMARY

Nigh-on superb throughout and benefitting from only one private owner, this 1999 BMW K1200RS makes a compelling choice for a comfortable and capable long-distance GT bike, while its low mileage and superb provenance also mean it will appeal to collectors.
