1998 PORSCHE 911 (993) TURBO

KEY FACTS

  • A superb example of the revered 993 Turbo from the final year of production, representing the last of the air-cooled 911s.
  • Its 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine produces 402bhp, delivered to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
  • Ordered for delivery in Thailand, but re-registered in the UK in June 1998, it has been with its current owner for the last 15 years.
  • While the speedometer evidently stopped working around three years ago, the correct total mileage from new is understood to be approximately 55,200 miles.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Finished in the sophisticated combination of Ocean Blue Metallic and Savannah tan leather, the car also sports a series of desirable features, including air conditioning, electric sport seats, and coloured Porsche wheel centre caps.
  • The suspension was overhauled in 2009 with upgraded Bilstein units installed, and the turbochargers and hoses were replaced in 2013.
  • The car comes with its service book, a host of invoices, spare wheel with jack, and the full original toolkit.
  • The appropriate registration ‘P999 TBO’ is included in the sale.

CONDITION

  • There is no known accident damage to the vehicle.
  • The paintwork is described as generally very good for its age, with a deep metallic shine. A few blemishes are apparent, including a crack in the centre of the front splitter, and a patch of stress cracks in the paint above the number plate – so the front end would certainly benefit from a respray in due course.
  • Overall, the original interior is in smart condition, with some surface creasing and slight discolouration on the seats, and modest wear to the driver’s seat outer bolster as shown. The gear shifter is heavy discoloured, though of course could be easily re-connolised or even replaced if desired. The rear seats have evidently seen far less use and present very well, as does the black leather-trimmed steering wheel.
  • The radio has been disconnected and the electrical connection to the sunroof is faulty.
  • Recent correspondence on file from a senior technician at Porsheworx states that the speedometer has been faulty for around three years. The mileage covered during this time is approximately 2,700 miles, meaning that the correct total mileage is around 55,200 miles. The correspondence from Porsheworx indicates that it will require a professional overhaul to rectify.
  • The most recent MOT test was in December 2020, passing on the second attempt with no advisories after the engine management light was extinguished following a service, and a fog light was replaced.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The car was most recently serviced in December 2020 by Jaz Porsche, where it received an annual service as well as some replacement parts, including a new lamp, under-tray, A-frame trim cover and offside driveshaft gaiters.
  • In July 2020, Porsheworx replaced the cast housing at the rear of the engine’s nearside bank and topped up the engine oil. A body machine polish and wax protection treatment was also carried out.
  • Prior to this, it received a service in January 2020 at Porsheworx, including an oil change, replacement front suspension drop links, replacement of various heat shields, upgraded brake flexi-hoses, and camshaft oil seals.
  • The car also had a major service in November 2018 at Porsheworx, including a gearbox oil change alongside a replacement horn and steering wheel airbag.
  • The November 2018 and July 2020 odometer readings on the invoices are inaccurate due to human error. The car is understood to have shown a static reading of 52,499 miles on the faulty odometer since around November 2018.
