1998 PORSCHE 911 (993) CARRERA 4S

This 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S is a well-maintained and well-presented example of a superb all-season 911. It is equipped with the 282bhp 3.6-litre ‘VarioRam’ flat-six engine, coupled to the involving six-speed manual transmission to drive all four wheels. The odometer currently indicates 78,152 miles from new.

The Carrera 4S shares the wide-arch body shell, front bumper, and lower suspension of the Turbo model, but is equipped with the naturally aspirated engine. First registered in February 1998, this example has been with its current keeper for nearly eight years.

The bodywork is all in very good shape, while the condition of the Arctic Silver Metallic paintwork has been described as excellent. The vendor has indicated a number of minor blemishes, such as some light stone chips around the front end, though they note that the lower front bumper has been resprayed. The vehicle rides on a set of 18-inch wheels with 4S centre badges, which are in superb condition.

Inside, the black leather upholstery is in generally excellent order, and the car is equipped with the desirable hard-shell sport seats. There is some light creasing on the front seats, and some minor discolouration on the driver’s outer bolster, but the rear seats appear to have been barely used. The door cards and dashboard are in great shape, showing only very slight wear in places, and the car also features an electric sunroof and air-conditioning. The vendor states that the air-con would now benefit from being re-gassed, but all of the switchgear and electrics are in good working order.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in October 2020 at 78,110 miles, where technicians at Northway Porsche in Reading changed the engine oil and filter. Prior to this, Northway Porsche carried out similar routine servicing in October 2019 and September 2018.

The most recent MOT test was on 5 June 2020 at 78,801 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The five-year-old Michelin tyres are reported to be in good condition, and have covered less than 5,000 miles.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original stamped service book and a large folder of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates.

This Porsche 993 Carrera 4S is a superb example of the breed, which is presented in excellent condition throughout and boasts a comprehensive maintenance history. An eminently usable but exciting analogue sports car, this 911 would be a great addition to any collection of modern classics or Porsches in particular.
