1997 PORSCHE 911 (993) CARRERA 2S

This Porsche 993 Carrera S is a fine example of one of the most desirable air-cooled 911s of the era, which is presented in an eye-catching colour combination and benefits from a recent major service. It is equipped with the 282bhp ‘VarioRam’ 3.6-litre flat-six engine, which drives the rear wheels via the sought-after six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 113,900 miles from new.

Launched in 1996 as something of a swansong for the 993-generation 911, the Carrera S featured the shapely wide-arched bodyshell previously found on the 911 Turbo, as well as the revised front bumper and lower suspension, but featured the naturally aspirated engine.

First registered on 10 January 1997, this original C16-code UK market car was kept in this country up until 2009, when it was temporarily exported to the dry climate of Cyprus for six years with its owner at the time, before returning in late 2015. The car was then acquired by the seller, who has enjoyed it for the past five years.

Today, the instantly recognisable 993-generation bodywork is in great shape, and the rare Zenith Blue metallic paint is also in good order. There are some general age-related marks including a small scuff on the front bumper, and some slight bubbling on the driver’s side A-pillar and at the base of the windscreen. The rear wings still retain the original paint protection film, which would benefit from replacement in due course.

Specified with an optional rear wiper and a top-tinted windscreen, this Carrera S has also been modified with the addition of a genuine ‘whale tail’ spoiler, which was ordinarily seen on the 993 Turbo, and gives the car an even more athletic appearance. The car rides on a set of 18-inch ‘Turbo Twist’ alloy wheels from the later 996-generation 911, which are pristine, with no marks or scratches of any kind. Behind them are a set of bright red brake callipers, which provide an attractive contrast with the bodywork.

Finished in Marble Grey leather with blue secondary trim, the cabin presents very well, and while there is some minor wear to the front seat upholstery, this is commensurate with the car’s age. The other interior touchpoints, including the manual gear knob and door pulls are also in good condition, though there is some wear to the rim of the blue steering wheel.

Factory-fitted equipment includes electrically adjustable hard-shelled sport seats, air-conditioning, and an electric sunroof, helping to bring fresh air into the cabin during warm-weather drives. This Carrera S has also been fitted with a classic-style Becker Grand Prix radio, which offers period-correct looks while also providing modern features including Bluetooth connectivity and MP3 playback.

The car’s most recent maintenance was an in-depth service, which was carried out in January 2020 at 113,286 miles by JZM Porsche. As well as changing the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and spark plugs, the battery was also replaced. The car also received new brake fluid, a new differential seal, offside rear toe arm, and replacement of both anti-roll bar bushes and the offside and nearside wishbones. A four-wheel alignment was then carried out to ensure this Carrera S handles as well as Porsche intended.

Prior to this, the car was serviced in 2016 at 110,991 miles by Jaz Porsche, and in 2015 at 109,343 miles by Mich. Pourgourides Ltd in Cyprus. Within the last five years, the front suspension struts have been replaced, as have the front brake disc cooling guides, air-conditioning condenser fan, and the engine oil cooling fan motor. The seller also had the front brake discs and pads changed, as well as the upper and lower cam covers.

The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 31 January 2020 at 113,848 miles, which it passed first time without any advisories or defects noted. The seller states that all four of the car’s Michelin Pilot Sport tyres are approximately four years old and remain in excellent condition, with 6-7mm of tread remaining.

This iconic ‘90s sports car will be accompanied by various servicing printouts and invoices, as well as its original handbook, owner’s manual, and the instruction for the factory-fitted alarm and stereo systems. The seller is also including the car’s original Porsche document wallet and two keys.

Earning its place as one of the most sought-after generations of 911, the 993 is the last air-cooled model in the long-running Carrera line. Featuring eye-catching wide-body styling, a striking factory colour combination and the engaging six-speed manual transmission, this rear-wheel drive Porsche 911 Carrera S will make a superb addition to any collection, and is sure to excite and delight its next owner.
