1996 PORSCHE 911 (993) CARRERA 4S

This 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S is a good, honest example of the eminently usable 993-generation sports car, presented in an attractive factory colour combination. Under the rear engine cover is the 282bhp 3.6-litre flat-six, which drives all four wheels via an engaging six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 91,878 miles from new.

First registered on 1 August 1996, this Carrera 4S benefits from the VarioRam induction system, which was introduced earlier the same year and boosts mid-range power and torque. It was specified in the appealing hue of Iris Blue Pearl with a two-tone grey and blue interior with pleated leather seats and a top-tinted windscreen. The car was acquired by its current owner in 2019, and is now offered for sale on their behalf due to lack of use in recent years.

Overall, the bodywork presents very well, and is not believed to have suffered from any prior accident damage. Described by the vendor as being in fair condition, the Iris Blue Pearl paintwork does feature its fair share of blemishes, including various stone chips and areas of lacquer peel on the front bumper and bonnet, as well as light scratches around the whole car, in line with its age and mileage. This 911 rides on a set of 18-inch five-spoke ‘Turbo Twist’ alloy wheels, which are in great shape and are fitted with silver ‘4S’ centre caps.

Moving inside, the cabin is trimmed in light grey and dark blue leather, which complements the body colour very well. Both of the front seats are free of any rips or tears, and while there is some wear to their bolsters and a mark on the back of the passenger-seat, this is commensurate with the car’s use. The rear seats present particularly well. The dark blue leather-wrapped steering wheel, grey gear knob and handbrake grip are discoloured and would benefit from refurbishment or replacement in due course.

Ahead, the upper dashboard is very smart; however, there are various scuffs and blemishes on its lower passenger-side section, and the vendor also notes that the headlining is sagging slightly. Interior equipment includes an electric sunroof, air conditioning and a Becker Traffic Pro radio/CD player. All of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

The most recent routine maintenance currently on record is a minor service, which was carried out in September 2016 at 83,437 miles by Porsche Service Centre Brooklands, though the vendor is currently checking for more up to date service history. In addition to changing the engine oil and oil filter, the front driver’s-side indicator lens was also replaced, along with the rear brake discs and rear wiper arm.

This modern classic Porsche’s last MOT test was conducted on 12 February 2021 at 91,853 miles, which resulted in an advisory-free pass after an issue with the horn was corrected. The wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tyres in size 225/40 ZR18 at the front and 285/30 ZR18 at the rear. All four appear to be in good order and with a good amount of tread remaining, and they are date-stamped to 2012.

The car will be accompanied by its logbook and service handbook, as well as a substantial folder of receipts and service invoices.

A highly involving yet practical analogue sports car, this Porsche 993 Carrera 4S is a fine example of sought-after wide-bodied modern classic. While it does feature some general age-related blemishes, this handsome 911 is ready to drive and enjoy immediately, and could easily be brought up to an impressive appearance under the care of its next owner.
