1996 BMW (E36) M3 EVOLUTION SALOON

KEY FACTS

  • A very smart example of the modern classic performance car, which remains in highly original condition and has evidently been well-cared for.
  • Under the bonnet is the high-revving 3.2 litre S50 straight-six, which produces 316bhp and is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission.
  • An original right-hand drive example, this M3 was first registered in May 1996, and was acquired by the seller in October 2019.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This M3 was specified in the timeless hue of Arctic Silver with Classic Dark Red leather upholstery and walnut trim.
  • Equipment includes heated front seats, cruise control, an electric sunroof and air conditioning.
  • It rides on the correct set of 17-inch ‘M contour 2’ alloy wheels, which have likely been refurbished in the past, and look superb.
  • The original stereo has been replaced with a more modern Kenwood unit with DAB+ radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • LED rear number plate lights have also been fitted.
  • The car will be supplied with its original owner’s handbook and stamped service book, as well as various invoices for its maintenance, and its full tool kit.

CONDITION

  • No known bodywork damage.
  • The seller believes that some of the panels have previously been resprayed, and the Arctic Silver paintwork presents in generally good condition, with chips on the door mirror covers, and some more significant stone chips on the lower front bumper. There is also some minor surface damage on the inner edges of the wheel arches.
  • Inside, the cabin is in good overall condition given the car’s age. The driver’s seat shows some obvious wear and age-related surface cracking, though this could easily be improved by a professional conditioning and re-connolising treatment.
  • The parcel shelf has faded with age, but the rear seats are in great shape, and the steering wheel is now in superb condition having been re-trimmed in black leather with red and blue accent stitching.
  • There are no known mechanical or electrical issues, and all of the instruments work as they should, with no missing pixels on any of the digital displays.
  • The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 4 October 2020 at 119,873 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with no warnings or advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This M3’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in July 2021 at 120,246 miles by Torque Speed, who performed an ‘Inspection 2’ service.
  • Prior to this, Torque Speed carried out an ‘Inspection 1’ service in October 2020 at 119,873 miles, and Harvey’s Auto-tech serviced the car in December 2016 at 114,968 miles.
