1995 PORSCHE 968 SPORT

KEY FACTS

  • An appealing modern classic sports car, with subtle mechanical improvements.
  • Equipped with the 3.0-litre 16-valve inline-four Variocam engine, producing around 237bhp and 225lb-ft of torque, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission.
  • The car benefits from excellent recent service history in particular.
  • Complete repaint to a very high standard.

EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS

  • The limited edition 968 Sport (304 examples built) featured the chassis upgrades of the Club Sport model, but with added conveniences, including rear seats, power windows, an electric release boot, and central locking.
  • This example now features a refreshed braking system with new stainless braided Teflon motorsport hoses and associated fittings (fitted January 2021).
  • An aftermarket Alpine stereo has been installed in the cabin.
  • Accompanying the vehicle are a replacement service book and service history print-out from OPC Belfast, along with recent maintenance invoices, a toolkit, a towing eye, a jack and a space saver wheel and all-important original Porsche roof panel bag.

CONDITION

  • All panels present straight and crisp with uniform gaps.
  • Iris Blue paintwork has previously undergone a complete windows-out and doors-off respray, while all the seals and gaskets were replaced upon reassembly.
  • It now presents with a few light stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet, alongside a few small scuffs on the door edges.
  • Inside, the black cloth upholstery is in excellent shape, with just some light wear to the outer bolsters.
  • A few surface marks can be seen on the centre console, while the vendor has indicated some light wear to the leather section of the handbrake lever.
  • No electrical faults have been detected.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 29 January 2021 at 98,396 miles, which was a first-time pass with no advisories or defects.
  • The car was stored in the owner’s workshop in the French Alps from 2016-2020 which explains the absence of MOT records during this period
  • Due to a fault with the speedometer which is a known common issue, the mileage that is displayed (98,428 miles) is approximately 3,500 miles shy of the actual distance covered. This fault has been rectified.
  • Mechanically, the car is in fine fettle, idle is smooth and consistent, power delivery is strong and progressive throughout the rev range, and the gear change is slick.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The last scheduled maintenance was undertaken at around 98,000 miles, which included an engine, transmission and differential oil replacement, along with new brake and clutch fluids. New rear brake lines were fitted from the T-section, along with a new flexible clutch hose, a new distributor, coil, king lead, HT leads, rotor arm and spark plugs. The rear ride height was checked and adjusted, while the sunroof mechanism was overhauled and the micro-switches were replaced.
  • The engine oil and filter were also replaced in 2017.
  • Brake pads and discs show very little signs of wear since their replacement in 2015.
  • Prior to this, in 2015 around 3,000 miles ago, technicians at RPM Technik in Long Marston replaced the cam chain, pad, seals, timing belts, rollers and tensioner; and also fitted a new radiator and fuel lines (tank forward).

SUMMARY

A smart and well-cared for example of the Porsche 968 Sport; this modern classic blends the rewarding chassis and weight savings of the Club Sport model, with a more comfortable cabin that makes it a great choice for road trips. The current owner viewed five other Sport cars before purchasing this example; it has never been or needed any welding in the sensitive areas that affect many of these cars. The underside and cavities of ‘VBZ’ have been carefully preserved with a complete treatment of Dinitrol. The vendor recently returned the car to the UK; 730 faultless miles in one hit, demonstrating its turn-key readiness to be enjoyed straight away.
