1995 PORSCHE 968 SPORT

This Porsche 968 Sport is a smart and cherished example of the marque’s more driver-focused transaxle coupe of the 1990s. Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre inline-four engine producing 237bhp and 225lb-ft of torque, connected to a six-speed manual gearbox with a limited-slip differential. The odometer shows 159,769 miles from new.

The UK-market ‘Sport’ specification brought together the chassis setup of the Club Sport model with a range of comfort and convenience items in the cabin – it this case, electric windows, comfort seats, electrically adjustable mirrors, and rear seats.

First registered on 14 February 1995, this 968 has six previous keepers on the V5C, and has been owned and enjoyed by the current vendor for the last fifteen years.

Presented in the original factory colour of Guards Red, this 968 Sport is described by the seller as being in fair cosmetic condition, with small scuffs, stone chips and other blemishes as shown in the photo gallery. There is lacquer peel on the leading edge of the sunroof, and around the windscreen and wing mirrors. While perfectly usable as-is, it would certainly benefit from a respray in the future.

The vendor notes that the car received a replacement offside front wing and bonnet several years ago due to a low-speed impact while driving on ice many years ago. However, this was deemed cost-effective to repair, and there are no damage markers on the HPI report. The Porsche badging shows signs of ageing and the rear bumper rubber piping is loose around the offside rear quarter, though the glass and light lenses are intact.

Blending minimalist design with comfortable seating, the 968 retains its original black fabric upholstery – with no tears or imperfections present on the seats. While not the full buckets of the Club Sport, these are nonetheless the lighter manually-adjustable option rather than the heavy electric seats. The steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake leather are worn, and the seller advises that the boot trim will need attention as it is loose, and the sunroof seal would benefit from replacement due to age. The switchgear is undamaged and functional – though the passenger window regular may have an intermittent fault.

This Porsche was last serviced in December 2019 at 157,766 miles by marque specialist Leatherhead Motor Company. This entailed a full fluids and filters service, together with a replacement offside front tyre. A previous service was carried out in January 2019. During the seller’s ownership, the shock absorbers have also been renewed.

The most recent MOT test was on 19 December 2019 at 158,815 miles. This resulted in a pass, with an advisory for a loose exhaust clamp. Wearing matching Toyo Proxes tyres all round, these are reported to be in good condition with ample tread remaining.

The 968 will reach its next owner with its space-saver spare wheel, original tool kit and full complement of owners’ handbooks. The stamped service book is also present.

This Porsche 968 Sport is an attainable and enjoyable example of the marque’s final front-engine transaxle performance car of the 20th century. While it would evidently benefit from being smartened up by its next owner, it is presented in sound mechanical condition, and is ready to enjoy on sunny weekends or even for longer road trips.
