1994 PORSCHE 911 (993) CARRERA TIPTRONIC

This Porsche 911 (993) Carrera is an excellent example of the modern classic sports car, presented in a smart black-on-black colour scheme, and which has been fastidiously maintained by the current owner. It is powered by the 3.6-litre ‘M64’ flat-six engine, producing 268bhp, driving the rear wheels through the four-speed Tiptronic transmission.

First registered in August 1994, there are nine previous registered keepers, which is not unusual for such a popular Porsche model. This 993 Carrera has been with its current owner for the past four years, during which time he has enjoyed some 7,000 miles behind the wheel. In total, the odometer now shows 103,508 miles from new.

This example’s sleek bodywork is in excellent condition with no signs of any accident damage, and with impressive shut lines all around the car. Indeed, the only flaws are a pair of barely-noticeable dents – one on the driver’s door and one on the bonnet.

The black metallic paint is described by the seller as being in fair condition overall and presents well. As an unrestored 911, there are some imperfections commensurate with the age and mileage, but they do little to detract from what is otherwise a very smart example. There are some stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet, a small amount of lacquer peel on the offside front wing and nearside rear quarter, and some minor scratches around the fuel filler lid. Some delamination is visible around the window glass, as well as paint bubbling at the base of the rear screen. There are also small chips along the trailing edge of the driver’s door.

The car rides on the original 17-inch silver ‘Cup II’ alloy wheels, which are all in pristine condition with no kerbing damage. Its light lenses are generally in great shape, though there is some discolouration of the front fog lights, with a crack in the offside lens cover. The seller states that the high-level brake light is currently inoperative. The window seals are slightly aged in places, and the door handle gaskets are cracking and would benefit from replacement.

In the cabin, black leather covers the front and rear seats, all of which are in superb condition, with only modest wear. The original steering wheel has been replaced with the popular Momo Prototipo model, providing a more classic look and driving experience, though the original wheel will also be included with the car. There is some loose trim around the top of the rear window that requires attention.

Factory-fitted equipment includes the electrically adjustable Sport seats, a sliding sunroof panel, and air-conditioning. The controls and evaporator for the latter have been replaced with new units, so this car has fully functioning air-conditioning that cools the cabin down in summer months. A more contemporary Becker Mexico radio and CD player has also been installed.

Mechanically, this 993 Carrera is in superb order, having been well-maintained throughout its life. In the last four years, the owner has spent around £15,000 to maintain and improve the car, and it is evidently that previous owners have also ensured that the car remains an impressive example. Lowered K&M coil springs have also been fitted to the suspension, delivering an accurate and responsive drive while helping to reduce front-end lift at high speeds. The steering column has also been refurbished, and the geometry has been tailored to the lower ride height to further enhance the handling.

The last scheduled service took place in February 2020 at approximately 103,000 miles, when specialist Porsche Torque of Uxbridge replaced the oil breather hose and bank 1 rocker cover, as well as the inner and outer CV joint gaiters on both drive shafts, while also carrying out the standard service measures. Prior to this, a minor service was carried out on 5 April 2019, which also saw replacement of the front and rear wipers, oil filler tube, mixed air flap motor, and the passenger-side window motor.

Its most recent MOT test was on 5 February 2020 at 102,823 miles, which the car passed first time without a single advisory. Its wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres all round, which were fitted in January 2018 and have been used for approximately 2,000 miles, leaving them in great condition.

Included with the car are the stamped service book and an extensive history file, detailing not only the current owner’s investment in maintenance, but also lots of documentation for servicing work dating back to the late 1990s – in particular with Porsche specialist Chris Turner prior to the seller’s ownership.

The last of the air-cooled 911s, the Porsche 993 Carrera is seen by many as the peak ‘modern classic’, blending the classic character with a more sophisticated powertrain and chassis. This particular car has been well cared for, and would now benefit from some light cosmetic attention in a few places to bring it up to a superb standard. It drives very smartly, and is ready for its next owner to enjoy; whether as a daily driver, weekend toy or a combination of the two.
