1994 BMW (E36) M3 COUPE

This BMW M3 is a superb example of one of the most iconic performance cars of the 1990s, benefiting from a sought-after factory specification, and excellent service history. Under the bonnet is the 282bhp 3.0-litre S50 straight-six engine, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 103,399 miles.

First registered on 6 August 1994, this car has just two previous keepers on the V5C, and the third private owner acquired the car in November 2009. It is now offered for sale by the trade, presented in highly original and unmodified condition.

The bodywork is reported to be in excellent, rust-free condition, with smooth panels and flush shut lines - and with no known prior damage. Its Avus Blue metallic colour is the original factory hue, and it has been resprayed to bring it back its current superb appearance. The vendor understands that the glass was removed for the repaint, and that the sills and wheel arches were all attended to as required and any repairs done to a high standard. It rides on a set of 17-inch ‘BMW Motorsport’ double-spoke alloys, which are pristine.

Inside, this M3 is equipped with the desirable ‘Vader’ sport seats, which are electrically adjustable and heated. The Light Grey Nappa leather upholstery is in great shape, with only minor wear commensurate with careful use over the last 26 years. There is some small damage to the leather trim at the trailing edge of the driver’s door - only visible when it is open. In the roof, the headlining around the sunroof is also slightly loose, though there are no rips or holes. The car retains the correct steering wheel and gear knob, with the aftermarket stereo the only non-original item. The only electrical foible reported by the vendor is that the central locking is intermittent, though the doors still open individually on the key with no problem.

The car is said to be in excellent mechanical condition, with 31 known visits to Dick Lovett BMW in Bath, and another to a BMW Sytner group premises, which has been partially ascertained via the BMW UK service history hotline. In recent years, the car has received a new alternator, new brake discs and rebuilt callipers on all four corners, a new air-conditioning condenser, and refurbishment of the alloy wheels.

The vendor states that this M3 drives just as it should, with no knocks or rattles, and that the engine pulls strongly with no smoke. The most recent MOT test was on 24 December 2020 at 103,373 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories or defects. All of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres are recent replacements, and remain in superb condition.

This E36-generation BMW M3 coupe is a wonderful modern classic, which benefits from cosmetic refurbishment of the bodywork and paint, while retaining its original interior. While it has evidently been driven as intended, the car has also been very well-maintained, and is ready for many more miles in the hands of another enthusiast owner.
