1993 PORSCHE 968 CLUB SPORT RACE CAR

KEY FACTS

  • A genuine UK-supplied lightweight Club Sport, which has been converted to full track-car specification by marque specialist RPM Specialist Cars, while remaining road legal.
  • Under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre M44 16-valve inline-four engine, which drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
  • While it was damaged in the mid-2000s, the car was rebuilt into the track-focused special you see here during 2008.
  • It has been used for track days and several MSVT / MSVR competitions between 2011 and 2013, achieving both class and overall wins.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  •  Fully converted by RPM Specialist Cars, this motorsport-oriented build includes GAZ Gold adjustable suspension, Kazz limited-slip differential, upgraded front brake calipers from a 993 RS, and a fully plumbed-in Lifeline electric fire suppression system.
  • In addition to the performance enhancements fitted to the vehicle, further weight reduction has been achieved by replacing the glass with polycarbonate sheets – including the rear screen – adding lightweight Cobra Evolution seats, plus a lightweight bonnet and an EMC race flywheel conversion.
  • Included with the vehicle is the original service book containing 12 service stamps (prior to the aforementioned damage and subsequent conversion) and the option code sticker, and numerous invoices from work carried out, including a full engine rebuild by RPM Specialist cars.

Specification:

  • Fully rebuilt to competition specification in 2008

CONDITION

  • As you would expect from a competition car, the bodywork has some ‘battle scars’ including cracks in the panel ahead of the nearside rear wheel arch. Unrelated to its track outings, the car was recorded as Category C prior to its rebuild.
  • The Guards Red paintwork and graphics are in generally good condition throughout, displaying only relatively minor wear and marks.
  • Inside, the stripped-out interior presents well, with minor wear noted to the door cards, steering wheel, seat edges and gear shifter.
  • There are no known electrical faults with the vehicle.
  • The most recent MOT test was carried out on 26 March 2021 at 53,965 miles, with only one advisory regarding the absence of headlights – and therefore noting that the car is only permitted to drive on the road in the daytime.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The engine was fully rebuilt during November 2018 by Unit Eleven Ltd, at a cost of £5,450 including new big end bolts, timing chain, crank sensor and general recommissioning of the inline-four motor.
  • During 2019, the suspension was given an overhaul, again by Unit Eleven Ltd at a cost of £987.50.
  • According to the vendor, significant levels of race preparation were carried out during 2011 and 2012, with the car scoring numerous class and overall wins during this period.
