This 1993 BMW (E36) 318is is a remarkably low-mileage modern classic, presented in highly original condition and with a desirable factory specification. Under the bonnet sits the 1.8-litre 16-valve M42 inline-four, producing up to 138bhp and 129lb-ft of torque, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates just 14,198 miles from new.

First registered in September 1993, this 318is has been in the possession of its current keeper for around six months, and has just one previous owner from new.

This E36’s sleek bodywork is all in good shape, while the condition of its Calypso Red finish has been described as excellent. The vendor has indicated some minor stone chips to the bonnet, as well as a small mark on the driver’s lower door, and some corrosion in the rear rain gutter – but overall the paint remains smooth and even. The factory-fitted sunroof appears to be in good working order, while the vehicle rides on a set of 15-inch alloy wheels, which are unrestored and in superb condition.

Inside, the anthracite fabric trim is in excellent order, presenting with minimal signs of use throughout. There is some slight discolouration in places, and the fabric insert on the nearside door card has some minor damage at the trailing edge – as shown in the photo gallery. Its three-spoke steering wheel and manual gear knob are in very good order. The original Pioneer stereo system is present, and no electrical faults have been detected.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in December 2020 at 13,996 miles, where technicians at BMW Wilmslow changed the spark plugs and auxiliary belt. The radiator cap and steering shaft were also previously replaced as part of a warranty recall. During the recent work, its brake pad wear was found to be less than 25% at the front and less than 30% at the rear. The most recent MOT test was on 26 November 2020 at 13,806 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The tyres have virtually full tread – measured at between 7mm and 7.7mm at the recent inspection, but are visibly aged in places.

Accompanying the vehicle are all of the original owner’s handbooks in their factory leather wallet, alongside a number of maintenance invoices and old MOT certificates. The original toolkit, first aid kit and jack are also supplied, along with an upgraded wheel brace. Three keys are present; two that are BMW-branded, and a third ‘wallet’ key.

This BMW 318is Coupe is a ‘time-warp’ example of the breed, with a strong 1.8-litre engine, handsome 1990s styling, and remarkably low mileage. While it presents in highly original, collector-quality condition, this 318is is ultimately versatile enough to be put into service as a modern classic daily driver if the next owner so desired.
