1992 PORSCHE 944 S2 CABRIOLET

KEY FACTS

  • An attractive and rare modern classic, this Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet is finished in blue with a matching convertible roof and grey leather interior, highlighted with co-ordinating blue piping.
  • The 3.0-litre M44/41 inline-four engine produces 208bhp, delivered to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
  • The S2 is fitted with what was the world’s largest capacity four-cylinder engine of its time.
  • This car is a 1991 model year build, from the final year of production, but was first registered in January 1992.
  • While this car was previously damaged and recorded as Category N in early 2020, its nose section has been replaced.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • As well as the large 3.0-litre engine, the S2 boasts the more aerodynamic Turbo-style front end, including front fog lights as well as long-range driving lights. This replaced the traditional 944 bumper and splitter of earlier models.
  • The car features electrically operated sport seats, finished in grey leather with blue piping, as well as electric windows and mirrors.
  • The car is fitted with a Blaupunkt Toronto CD player.
  • The blue convertible roof is electrically operated.
  • It is now equipped with an increasingly hard-to-find Dansk sports exhaust system made specifically for the 944.
  • The car is accompanied by its handbook, service book, MOTs and various invoices, as well as a space-saver spare tyre and jack.

CONDITION

  • While there is no visible accident damage today, it is understood that the nose was previously damaged. This led to a Category N classification, but it was subsequently replaced with a new panel.
  • The paintwork is believed to be largely original and has a deep shine, with some minor blemishes such as a scratch on the boot lid, small stone chips, and some flaws in the paint around the headlight washers.
  • The interior is original, in good condition, with only some slight wear to the outside section of the driver’s seat bolster, a small nick on the rear of the driver’s seat, and mounting holes on the side of the centre console in the front passenger footwell.
  • The most recent MOT test was in February 2021 at 93,783 miles, when the car passed first time with advisories for both front tyres, which the owner has since replaced.
  • There appears to be some damage to the LCD clock screen, but there are no other known faults.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The most recent service was in February 2021. There is also a parts invoice on file from June 2020 from Porsche Centre East London for a new oil filter and spark plugs.
  • Prior to this, the car received a service which included cambelt and alternator belt replacements from White Bear Garage (a Porsche specialist) in September 2019.

SUMMARY

Offered as the only convertible in the series with a naturally aspirated engine, the Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet marked the end of the model’s production before it was replaced by the 968. This example is a very late registration car in good mechanical order, well suited to an enthusiast who is perhaps looking for their first foray into Porsche ownership.
