1992 PORSCHE 911 (964) CARRERA RS - PAINT TO SAMPLE

First registered in Germany (C00 code), this totally original three-owner Porsche 964 Carrera RS in PTS Ferrari Yellow, is an unmolested, matching numbers, original paint and panels example of one of the marque’s most driver-focused models. It is presented in an extremely rare ‘Paint to Sample’ hue and benefits from a large amount of recent maintenance to bring it up to the highest possible standard. Under the rear engine cover is an original RS 260bhp 3.6-litre ‘M64/03’ air-cooled flat-six, which drives the rear wheels via the close-ratio ‘G50/10’ five-speed manual transmission. While the Carrera RS places a far greater focus on driver involvement than raw speed, this still allows it to sprint from 0-60mph in just 5.2 seconds, thanks in part to the car’s low kerb weight of just 1,220kg. The odometer displays just 83,327km (51,777 miles).

A left-hand drive German-market example, this 964 RS was first registered in April 1992 at Zentrum Porsche, Dusseldorf. During its time in Germany, the car had only two keepers, and is now offered for sale by its third owner, who had it transported to the UK after purchasing it in October 2019 from Thomas J Schmitz.

Today, this 911’s iconic bodywork is in outstanding condition, and has been independently verified as being free of any corrosion or accident damage. The vendor states that its Paint to Sample ‘Ferrari Yellow’ paintwork is entirely original, which can be proven by a paint depth report supplied when he bought the car. While there are small stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet, some of which have been touched in, these are minor imperfections.

There is also minor cracking on the passenger-side of the rain channel near the door mirror, which is a common issue on the 964 RS. You can see in the photos that there is hairline glazing on the rear bumper in two places, both only visible on very close inspection. Furthermore, the seller notes that there is a faint 2cm scratch on the rear bumper, plus minor stone chipping. There are three minor stone chips on the windscreen scuttle panel, plus a small stone chip just ahead of the rear wheel. However, these again are minor blemishes, and have purposely not been attended too, thus ensuring the cars paint originality is maintained. They in no way detract from this stunning Carrera RS’s impressive overall condition.

The car’s exterior is entirely factory original, save for its brake cooling intakes on the front bumper; however, the original reflectors will be supplied with the car, and can be refitted if the buyer prefers. It rides on its original set of five-spoke magnesium alloy wheels, which are in great shape, with only one small mark to the finish of the rear passenger-side item – which was caused by a trailer strap – and some minor stone chips on the other wheels. The vendor has opted to keep their factory finish in place rather than having them refurbished to preserve the car’s originality.

In the cabin, the car features its correct, RS-specific lightweight seats, which are upholstered with three-tone ‘triple blue’ leather, and are complemented by vibrant blue seatbelts and matching blue ‘RS’ embroidery on the rear carpet. Given this Porsche’s age, some light wear is to be expected, but the seats remain almost entirely unmarked, with only some minor creasing on their surfaces, in line with the car’s use. Ahead, the factory-fitted upgraded Atiwe steering wheel is in great shape, and its black leather covering is free of any undue wear, while the leather-wrapped manual gear knob also presents very well.

The black carpets are also in excellent condition and do not suffer the brittle glue issue found in so many examples of the 964 RS. The only very minor issue noted by the seller being some very faint wear just behind the passenger seat. Both of the lightweight door cards are in good order, as is the rest of the interior trim, and this example’s ‘radio delete’ has been executed well. The vendor notes that the glove box opening mechanism is slightly stiff, but this is a minor issue, and all of the interior controls, buttons and electrical items work without fault.

This thrilling modern classic Porsche’s most recent routine maintenance was a minor service, which was carried out by Porsche specialist Quorn Sports and Classics in October 2020, and consisted of an engine oil and filter change. Prior to this, specialist RPM Technik carried out a major service in October 2019. The car’s history is excellent, with the maintenance record containing 16 service stamps.

Following the car’s acquisition by the seller in October 2019, he dealt with all the cosmetic and mechanical issues pointed out in a post-purchase inspection by RPM Technik. This included replacement of the blower motor, steering rack mount, fan belt and spoiler motor, as well as adjustment of the boot and bonnet cables, fuel flap and tappets. In addition, the doors were stripped down and reassembled to remove any rattles, the clutch pedal was lubricated and an altitude sensor was fitted for the de-cat exhaust. The underside of the car has also been treated to protect it from corrosion, and the vehicle was then sent to Porsche specialist Center Gravity for a full suspension review and a ‘spirited road’ geometry setup. Finally, this 964 RS was sent to GCR Central, which replaced the engine idle valve and fitted the front brake duct trims. The current owner has spent over £8,500 on the car since acquiring it.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 1 October 2020 at 83,185km, resulting in a first-time pass with no advisories. All four wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, which were fitted in October 2019 and have covered just 933 miles since.

Accompanying this 964 RS are its original service book, owner’s manuals and service centre book, all contained within the correct leather folder. The car’s two keys will also be included, along with its locking wheel bolt keys, tool kit and original touch-up paint kit.

This Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS is a stunning modern classic sports car, which has been designed with lightweight thrills and driver enjoyment at its core. Finished in its original ‘Paint to Sample’ Ferrari Yellow paintwork and featuring its factory-fitted upholstery and accessories, this unmolested, matching numbers RS represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a rare example of one of the marque’s finest analogue driver’s cars, and will make an outstanding addition to any Porsche collector’s garage.
