Benefitting from a thorough recent service and presented in smart condition, this Porsche 944 Turbo is a highly original example of the classic performance car. Under the bonnet is the 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 247bhp and drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 67,777 miles from new.

First introduced in 1982 as a development of the Porsche 924, the 944 went on to become the marque’s greatest sales success until the introduction of the Boxster many years later. First registered on 8 June 1990, this UK-market 944 Turbo was acquired by its current owner one year ago.

Reported to be free of any accident damage or evidence of welding repairs, the bodywork presents in excellent condition. While some of the panels have been resprayed in the past, the Guards Red paintwork has a bright and even appearance around the car, with only a few minor age-related blemishes and swirl marks to its surface. The exterior trim also presents well, though the black painted door handles would benefit from being rejuvenated, and the rear exhaust silencer’s rubber mount may need to be replaced as it is hanging slightly lower than standard. This 944 rides on the correct set of seven-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, which feature some very slight scratches but are in great shape overall.

On stepping into the bright and airy cabin, you are met by the heavily bolstered sport seats, which are trimmed in cream leather and present very well for their age. While the front seats are creased and worn – most notably the driver’s outer bolster – this could likely be improved via a re-connolising treatment, and there are no rips or tears to the upholstery. Elsewhere, the interior trim is in good overall condition, with minor marks and blemishes throughout the cabin, as is to be expected in a 31-year-old car which has been enjoyed as intended.

Two white plastic screws have been inserted into the passenger-side of the centre console, likely for a previous phone mount. All of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

The car’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in December 2020 at 67,762 miles by Bentley Automotive Ltd. An extensive service, this included replacement of all of the drive belts, as well as the fitment of new front and rear brake discs and pads, while the handbrake shoes were also changed. Prior to this, services were performed in June 2015 and in May 2013, both by Bentley Automotive.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 12 November 2020 at 67,754 miles, which resulted in a clean, first-time pass. All four wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres, which were fitted in December 2020 and remain in as-new condition. The car will be accompanied by its original handbooks, documents and tool kit.
