1990 PORSCHE 928 S4

This 1990 Porsche 928 S4 is a superb example of the marque’s beloved grand tourer, which has been enjoyed as intended but remains entirely original and presents very well throughout. Under the bonnet sits the 320hp 5.0-litre V8, coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 141,838 km (88,134 miles) from new.

First registered in February 1991, this 928 has been with its current and registered fourth keeper for the last nine years. A left-hand drive car initially registered in Switzerland, and later in Spain, it was acquired by the vendor nine years ago, and was imported and re-registered with the DVLA in May 2017 when he moved to the UK.

The bodywork is all in good shape, presenting with flush shut lines and no suggestion of any previous damage. The vendor notes the car was given a professional windows-out respray in 2016, due to micro-blistering on the roof panel, and now presents with just one light stone chip on the bonnet and some minor scratches around the rear number plate. The pop-up headlamps appear to be in good working order, while the car rides on a set of correct 16-inch ‘Design 90’ alloys, which have some minor scuffs on the offside rear wheel rim.

Inside, the full grey and black leather interior is in excellent condition, presenting with an appealing patina and just a few light creases on the base panels and bolsters. The plush carpets and black leather headlining are all in good shape, along with the key contact points and black dashboard trim. A couple of light scratches can be seen on the face of the central analogue clock and ashtray, while the vendor reports that the rear windscreen wiper button is known to stick occasionally. The rear leather appears to be in similarly impressive condition. The original radio is in working order and has the two key-cards present. The cassette is not working though, but a mini-jack connection cable is present on the lower shelf for connecting an MP3 player or smartphone.

In recent years, the car has received a new battery, new gas struts for the boot, engine oil changes, a full MAF refurb, and the outer fuel pump has been replaced and the inner fuel pump has been refurbished. Prior to this, the last scheduled major maintenance was undertaken in April 2013 at 84,000 miles (135,000 km), where the renowned technicians at Baltasar in Madrid changed fluids, filters and the timing belt, before attending to the brakes and steering. Prior to this, major services were also carried out in 2009 and 2008.

The most recent MOT test was on 18 December 2020 at 141,664 km, which resulted in a pass with two advisories to monitor worn rear tyres, and these will need to be replaced within 2,000 miles.

Accompanying the vehicle are all the original handbooks, service book and Certificate of Authenticity, along with an original first aid kit, two keys, a spare wheel, and original air compressor and toolkit.

This Porsche 928 S4 is a smart example of the marque’s V8 grand tourer, which presents in excellent cosmetic condition and is reported to be in solid mechanical order. An unmodified example, this 928 should prove to be a great value modern classic, perfect for weekend blasts and longer road trips alike.
