1990 PORSCHE 911 (964) CARRERA RS REPLICA

This 1990 Porsche 964 is a well-presented tribute to the Carrera RS, with some faithful model-specific upgrades and a re-trimmed interior. It is equipped with a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six, with the bottom end from a 993 and the inlet from a 964, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 89,439 miles.

First registered in March 1990, this RS replica has been in the hands of its current keeper for one year, following a period of just over 10 years where it appears to have been stored off the road. An RS clutch and flywheel have been fitted, while the ride has been lowered and the rear screen has been replaced with a polycarbonate alternative and a wiper delete kit. The car has undergone an interior re-trim to in the RS style, with rear seat delete, Recaro bucket seats, and lightweight door cards.

The bodywork is all in good shape, with flush shut lines and smooth panels. The resprayed Guards Red paintwork presents very well, though the vendor has reported a couple of minor blemishes on the roof, while one or two very small stone chips can be seen on the front end. A few light marks can be seen on the rear wing, though the badging and black body trims all appear as they should. The car rides on a set of smart powder-coated 17-inch ‘Cup 1’ alloy wheels.

Inside, the leather-trimmed Recaro bucket seats are in superb condition, and the car is also equipped with a harness bar / brace, with a pair of Schroth four-point belts. The three-spoke steering wheel is showing some early signs of wear, while some light scuffs can be seen on the centre console. The ignition surround has some scratching, though the dials and dashboard top both present very well. The vendor notes that the stereo head unit and speakers have been removed.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in February 2021 at 89,435 miles, where technicians at Malton Autocare carried out a full service, changing the engine oil, filter and spark plugs, and fitted a K&N air filter. New rotors and caps were fitted, along with new track rod ends and new brakes, while the standard brake lines were replaced with braided upgrades.

The most recent MOT test was on 18 March 2021 at 89,436 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects, after some minor steering rack and anti-roll bar components were replaced or refurbished. The Michelin Pilot Sport tyres are date-coded to 2020 and remain in as-new condition.

This Porsche 964 is a very smart Carrera RS replica, with a number of mechanical upgrades and a reconfigured interior. With a powerful flat-six and slick manual transmission, this 911 is a highly usable tribute, which evokes a ‘Rennsport’ driving experience for a fraction of the cost of the genuine article.
