1992 PORSCHE 911 (964) CARRERA RS

This 1992 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS is a rare and exciting analogue sports car, presented in impressive condition. It is equipped with the 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six producing 260bhp, coupled with the engaging five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates just 85,435 km (53,080 miles) from new.

The Carrera RS is a coveted lightweight version of the 964, with increased power output, a lightened flywheel, a limited-slip differential and track-oriented suspension with a lower ride height, stiffer springs and adjustable stabiliser bars. Originally a German-market car (C00 code), this Carrera RS was imported to France in 2003, where it was owned by a member of the French Porsche Club. It was then imported to the UK by its current keeper, who has now owned the vehicle for two years. One of only 2,282 cars built, it remains a highly original example, though benefits from the fitment of a Cup DME and a Cup pipe exhaust.

This Rennsport model has been used for track days by both the previous and present owner, and is now heavily stonechipped around the front bumper and aluminium bonnet. However, the striking Guards Red paintwork is believed to be entirely original and the vendor suggests a respray may only be required if the car is to be stored as a collector’s item. The car boasts thinner, lighter window glass than the standard Carrera, and this car also features aftermarket carbon-fibre doors. It still rides on the correct 17-inch magnesium alloy wheels, which present with just a few light surface blemishes.

The original triple-tone black and grey leather-trimmed bucket seats are present and correct, appearing with some age-related creasing and the addition of Schroth racing harnesses. The door cards and headlining appear to be in good shape, though the vendor indicates the carpet comes with a few small cuts, which were caused by the fitment of a previous bolt-in roll cage. The dashboard trim and main contact points are in good condition, while an Alpine stereo has been installed, and no electrical faults have been detected.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in November 2019 at 84,656 km (52,603 miles), where technicians at RPM Technik in Long Marston carried out a service, also replacing the brake pads, brake pipes, washer valves, wheel arch liner, windscreen, various trim pieces and a front suspension bush. Work was also carried out to the geometry and electrics. Prior to this, an engine service and fluid change were carried out in November 2018 as part of a French ‘contrôle technique’ roadworthiness test, while similar maintenance was undertaken in April 2017 alongside the fitment of a new battery.

The most recent MOT test was on 4 November 2019 at 84,166 km, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The car is currently wearing Bridgestone tyres, though the vendor notes that a spare set of 18-inch wheels and barely used Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres will also be supplied. The first set is reported to be slightly older, while the second was fitted in 2019, and has since covered around 500 road miles and two track days.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original handbook, German registration documents, French import paperwork, an extensive maintenance history file and the factory toolkit.

A sought-after modern classic sports car, which has been used as intended while benefiting from specialist maintenance; this rare Porsche 964 Carrera RS is presented in very good order. With some tasteful track-oriented modifications, it would make a superb weekend toy or B-road companion, or could continue to thrill on closed-circuit track days.
