1989 PORSCHE 911 (964) CARRERA 2

KEY FACTS

  • A very smart example of the marque’s modern classic sports car, benefitting from a full glass-out respray and recent service.
  • Under the engine lid sits a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six engine producing 250bhp, powering the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
  • Having been off the road for most of the last seven years, it has been treated to an extensive refurbishment in 2021, and benefits from prior brakes and suspension overhauls, plus two top-end engine rebuilds.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The manual Carrera 2 is often thought of as the ‘purist’s choice’, powering the rear wheels only and with a useful weight saving over the four-wheel drive variant.
  • This 911 is finished in rich Baltic Blue metallic over a Linen leather cabin, sporting refurbished 17-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
  • It features electrically adjustable sport seats, an electrically operated rear spoiler, sunroof, and rear wiper.
  • A new Ripspeed stereo has been fitted.
  • The car comes with the original book pack, service book and extensive history file.

CONDITION

  • There is no known accident damage.
  • The bodywork was refurbished and repainted in 2021 to remove any blemishes, including the fitment of new rubbers and seals. The resprayed paintwork is described as being in genuinely excellent condition today.
  • The refurbished ‘Cup’ alloy wheels are in superb order, showing no wear or damage, and they house red painted brake callipers.
  • Moving inside, the leather cabin presents well for its age, having recently been re-connolised as well as refurbished with a new driver’s seat bolster and seat piping. There is a small nick in the passenger’s seat insert, a few imperfections on the headlining, and some modest signs of use on the seats, gear knob, handbrake lever, and transmission tunnel.
  • There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.
  • The most recent MOT test was in July 2021 at 156,180 miles, when the car registered a clean first-time pass. It has passed every MOT test since 2006 at the first attempt, covering some 24,000 miles during this period.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The car was most recently serviced in September 2021 at 156,100 miles by specialist Carrera Performance, who changed the oil and checked the vehicle over.
  • Earlier this year, the car underwent a full glass-out body refurbishment, where any blemishes were corrected, and the bodywork was resprayed to its original factory colour of Baltic Blue metallic. New rubbers and seals were also fitted during the process.
  • Previously, in 2012, the wheel bearings were replaced, the brake lines and callipers were overhauled, and the alloy wheels were refurbished.
  • In 2011, the suspension and steering were overhauled, including new springs, bushes, adjusters and bump stops, as well as refurbished original shock absorbers.
  • The brake system was renewed in 2010, and the engine was fully rebuilt in 2009, including reconditioning of the heads, cylinders and crankcase. The seller states that it does not leak any oil.
