1989 PORSCHE 911 3.2 SPEEDSTER

KEY FACTS

• A highly original and relatively low-mileage example of an iconic air-cooled convertible sports car.
• Under the engine lid is the 228bhp 3.2-litre flat-six from the Carrera model, coupled to the desirable G50 five-speed manual transmission.
• One of just 139 right-hand drive Speedsters, it was initially delivered to South Africa, but has been registered in the UK since October 1989.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Almost all of the Speedsters built were produced in the wide body ‘Turbo look’ like this example. The model features an aluminium windscreen frame that is shorter and with a more shallow rake, and with a ‘double bubble’ rear cover that houses the fabric soft top. Inside, the seats are also mounted lower in the cabin.
• The 911 3.2 Speedster had no power steering, electric windows, or air conditioning. Thanks to this focus on stripping out unnecessary luxuries, the Speedster can sprint from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 152mph.
• Its wide body ‘Super Sport Equipment’ package also featured the 911 Turbo axle brackets and stabilisers, as well as the more powerful brakes.
• This car was specified with the standard electrically adjustable seats, velour-trimmed luggage compartment, and a Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46 stereo - all of which are still present.
• Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the stamped maintenance record, stored in the black wallet. An extensive history file of paperwork is also included, along with the original tool kit and air compressor, spare parts such as a fan belt and fuses, and the space-saver spare wheel with original gloves.
• On the DVLA record, the chassis number is recorded as 91ZK5151572, which was evidently a clerical error when first registered, and which would be easy to rectify.

CONDITION

• There is no known prior body damage.
• Its paintwork is in excellent condition, having been wholly or partially resprayed in the past. There are some small stone chips to the front of the car, but overall it presents superbly, and it has been given a thorough detailing and ceramic coat.
• All four Fuchs alloy wheels are in pristine order.
• In the cabin, the black leather upholstery is in great shape for its age, showing no significant wear or damage. The dashboard and door panel trims are also in very good order.
• There are no known electrical faults; all of the instrument gauges and switches work as they should.
• The most recent MOT test was on 6 June 2019 at 61,244 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories. While it has covered just 66 miles since this test, it will need a fresh MOT certificate before taking to the road again.

SERVICE HISTORY

• The last service was in 2019 at Porsche specialist SP Autobahn in Stirling, which comprised a standard engine oil and filter change.
• The vendor also reports that routine maintenance was carried out in 2017 and 2016, though the car has only covered around 1,000 miles in seven years.

SUMMARY

This Porsche 911 3.2 Speedster is a great example of a collectible open-top sports car from the marque’s back catalogue. The bodywork and paint present excellently, while the interior trim is all original and still looks very smart.
