Built and first registered in 1989, the car has been with the current owner for less than a year. It was with the previous owner, a BMW enthusiast, for eight years, and they handled the restoration work that sees it in such fine condition today.

Over the past twelve months a significant amount of work has been performed on the car to bring it to excellent mechanical condition. Among other things, the engine was pulled out and a new timing belt and water pump were fitted, along with fresh spark plugs, air, oil and fuel filters and various replacement gaskets.

A refreshed second-hand transmission was also installed along with a new radiator, thermo switch, coolant hoses and thermostat. The wiring loom was removed, checked and restored to its original specification, having previously been altered for the installation of an aftermarket stereo and central locking. The full list of works is extensive and will be included along with the car.

The car is also in excellent cosmetic condition. It has never suffered any major damage, and the panels, trim and convertible roof fit well and are in good condition. A small dent in the passenger side door is all there is to note. The car has been resprayed and its paintwork is very good all round, presenting just minor stone chipping that is to be expected of a car that’s driven and enjoyed.

The restoration work carries through to the interior, which has been reupholstered and is in excellent condition. The leather is all new, and the fit and finish is to a high standard. The owner notes that the brake light indicator is illuminated on the dashboard, but the pads have been recently replaced. The left indicator bulb on the dashboard has also failed once or twice in the past, but is currently working, the indicators themselves continued to work correctly regardless.

European car specialist HG Motors performed a service on the car in March 2021 at 156,500 km. Works included installation of a new starter motor, removing and installing a flex plate, and topping up the transmission oil. Previously, the BMW was serviced in November 2020, when a new fuel pump was fitted, and in mid-2020 when the new timing belt was installed while in the care of the previous owner.

A roadworthiness test was performed in September 2020 and the car passed with no warnings. It sits on new 16-inch OEM Alpina wheels shod with near-new tyres with less than 500 km on them.
